October produce is here 🍎🎃🍠

Eating with the seasons is an easy way to add more variety, color, flavor and nutrients to your meals. This month, look for fall favorites like apples, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, cranberries, broccoli, Brussels sprouts and more.
Try adding one or two to your grocery list this week and build them into meals, snacks or sides you already enjoy.
What’s your favorite October seasonal food?

Ice cream doesn’t have to be the prize.
“Three more bites, then you can have dessert.”
If you’ve said it, you’re not alone. Many of us grew up with that same rule! But we can approach dessert without making other foods the hurdle to get there.
One suggestion? Serve a portion of dessert alongside dinner. No bargaining, no clean-plate requirement, no extra bites to earn it.
And if your child eats the ice cream first? Great, that doesn’t mean you did it wrong. They’re allowed to enjoy what’s on their plate in a different order than you would.
Keeping dessert neutral doesn’t mean serving it at every meal or whenever it’s requested. You still decide what’s offered and when. It simply means dessert isn’t conditional on how much of another food they eat.
We can offer structure without making sweets a reward.

Flag on the play: skipping meals to “save up” for the tailgate or watch party
Eat throughout the day. Add what sounds good and helps you feel fueled. And then?
Eat the pizza. Have the queso. Enjoy the game.
Because food gets to be part of the fun, too.
Send this to the friend who needs it before kickoff. 🏈

September produce is giving us the best of both seasons 🍎🍐🍠
As summer starts winding down and fall rolls in, there are plenty of fruits and veggies coming into season. Shopping seasonally can be a fun way to add more variety to your meals, snacks and weekly grocery haul.
Which one are you most excited to see this month?

I get this question a lot, along with “Will eating carbs make my diabetes worse?”
This is such a good question!
BIG PICTURE - Eating carbohydrates does not automatically cause diabetes. Yes, carbohydrates raise blood glucose after you eat them—but that’s a normal physiological response and we want this to happen!
Type 2 diabetes is much more complex and develops through many factors, not just what we eat.
Rather than fearing carbohydrates, we encourage our clients to learn how to incorporate them in a healthy way that supports steady energy, adequate nutrition, and blood sugar control.
Think fiber-rich carb + protein + healthy fat.

Melissa Druien and I had such a good time yesterday at a wellness fair with one of our corporate partners!

We loved getting to connect with employees, answer nutrition questions, and spend some time representing Well Rooted outside of the office.

We really enjoy this side of what we do and always appreciate opportunities to connect with the businesses we work with.
