Don’t miss our fun, FREE Halloween online exercise classes!
Our Halloween themed exercise classes will be held during our usual Wellness in Motion and Chair Fit live online classes on Saturday, October 31 which are sponsored by the Blue Cross NC Beyond Blue Neighborhood Centers. All classes are Free. They are geared toward older adults and beginners to help you become stronger and more flexible and have better balance. Classes are seated or standing; there is no getting down on the floor. Classes are held live on Zoom on Saturday mornings. All classes are taught by Senior Fitness Specialist Michelle Rogers, CPT.
• Wellness in Motion, Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Eastern
• Chair Fit, Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Eastern

For the Halloween class: When you’re at the grocery store, pick up one small pumpkin (2-3 lbs., “pie pumpkin” size – like what I’m holding in the photo), which we’ll use as a weight. They are usually around $3. If you don’t have one, you can hold a dumbbell instead, or can do it without a weight.
To make the class even more fun, feel free to wear a costume or your favorite Fall fashion.

If you are not currently registered for our classes, please register here: https://michellerogers.fitness/class

Be sure to invite your family and friends to register for our free classes, too! 👻🎃

A Pilates ring (also called a magic circle) is one of my favorite fitness tools to use with my personal training clients and in my senior chair exercise classes!

It’s lightweight, portable, inexpensive, versatile, and easy to use. That makes it perfect for home, too.

In this video, I’m demonstrating several seated exercises that target:

✔️ Upper body: Strengthen your arms, chest, and shoulders for everyday activities.

✔️ Hips and lower body: Strengthen the muscles that support stability, balance, and walking.

✔️ Core: Engage the muscles that support your spine, posture, and everyday movements.

✔️ Wrists and forearms: Improve grip strength and hand function for everyday tasks like opening jars, carrying groceries, and holding objects.

Why do I love the Pilates ring for older adults? It provides gentle, adjustable resistance without heavy weights. You control how much pressure you apply, making it a great option for a variety of fitness levels.

And because these exercises can be done seated, they’re especially helpful for anyone who needs or prefers a chair-based workout.

You can find a Pilates ring at stores that sell exercise supplies, or on Amazon:

If you’re taking a GLP-1 medication like Ozempic or Wegovy, here’s something important you need to know.

When you lose weight quickly, you can lose muscle along with fat. And that’s especially concerning as we get older, because muscle is essential for staying strong, mobile, and independent.

That’s why strength training is so important!

And you don’t need a gym! Lifting dumbbells, using resistance bands, and body weight exercises such as lunges, sit-to-stands, or even wall push-ups all count.

Aim to work your major muscle groups 3 times a week.

If you’re not sure where to start, I can help! I offer 1-on-1 online personal training and online exercise classes designed for older adults.

Let’s make sure you’re losing weight, not your strength!

With knee pain being common among older adults, I was happy to provide my professional insight on this topic and offer tips to help prevent discomfort and injury.

If you aren’t a Prevention subscriber, you can read the story here:
