The Comfort Cub The Comfort Cub Story

After my son George died, my heart hurt so much and my arms felt so empty. It's not only the mother who suffers though. Thank you. Marcella

However, I found that when I held a weighted object close to my chest, the pain in my heart and aching in my arms immediately went away. I began to research and found out that both of these physical symptoms can be common after the loss of a child. At that time there were no medical terms for these physical symptoms, but now it is recognized as a medical condition called "Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy" (ICD 9- 429.83) for the aching in the heart and "Empty Arm Syndrome" for the pain in the arms. I felt inspired and compelled to create a weighted teddy bear for others who were grieving a similar loss. I wanted to make sure no other mothers left the hospital empty-handed and broken hearted the way I did. While it is no substitute for the loss of a child, it does help ease the pain of empty arms. Fathers, siblings and even grandparents are in pain too. I have received many letters and stories about how The Comfort Cub helped ease their pain as well. Please share with those who may benefit.

Fox 11 Los Angeles featured the International Wave of Light. We, at The Comfort Cub nonprofit, are so grateful their news team shined light on this event that honors all babies, unborn babies and children (of any age) who died too soon. What an honor to help support this annual event on October 15th and feel connected to families looking for support in their darkest times.

We are so grateful to FDNY Fire Commissioner Lillian Bosignore and her office for sending us some wonderful gifts to thank us for our donation of Comfort Cubs to the families of those that were lost at 9/11 or after from 9/11 related illnesses. We got an official FDNY Hat, T-shirt and pins along with this very special FDNY 25th 9.11 Anniversary official Department Ceremonial Patch. One was given to every member of the Department and to certain citizens who have helped their community. We are so honored to have been gifted this symbol of remembrance, unity and enduring service. Thank you, FDNY! ❤️🇺🇸❤️🧸❤️🧸❤️🇺🇸Thank you also to the amazing organization, Voices Center for Resilience, for inviting us to participate in their 9.11 25th Anniversary Symposium in NYC. We will never forget this incredible opportunity to share our Comfort Cubs! ❤️

October 15th is Pregnancy, Infant and Child Loss Awareness Day. If you’ve lost a baby at birth, miscarried, or lost a child, please join us in honoring them with you this October 15th at 6:00 pm in both Temecula or San Diego - We provide luminary bags you can decorate with your child’s name. Then we each say their name out loud. It’s a small and sincere way to honor them together as a community. If you have questions please message us. We partner with Empty Cradle each year for this event. We will be at Vail Ranch Headquarters in Temecula t 6pm, and also at 6pm in San Diego at Kellogg Park in La Jolla.
