Our in house Posture Therapist Alisa demonstrating some moves from our Posture Therapy program here at Catalyst: Try this one for low back pain. It’s the crunch with rotation, and we still aren’t building abs.
When the deep postural muscles stop holding the pelvis, the abdominals take over the job and never let go. So we fatigue them on purpose. Once they stop covering, the muscles underneath have to take the work back. Adding rotation extends the same demand through the sides of your torso.
On your back, hands behind your head, fingers interlocked, elbows pointing out, shoulder blades drawn together. Legs up over your hips with a slight knee bend, left ankle crossed over right, lowered about two inches toward the floor → crunch up until the shoulder blades clear the ground, rotate your whole upper body to the left with the elbows staying back, return to center, then lower.
Repeat crunching up and rotating right. One rep is up, rotate, center, down, then the same on the other side. Switch the foot position halfway through.
Keep the elbows back and the shoulder blades engaged the whole time. The upper body rotates as one piece, not from the neck.
Because a muscle that won’t let go isn’t strong. It’s stuck.
This one isn’t for everyone. It’s what we use with clients who grip through the abs.
