After 40, I need you to stop thinking about exercise ONLY as a way to burn calories. We're playing a much bigger game now.

MUSCLE. MATTERS.

As we age, maintaining muscle becomes increasingly important for:
💪🏾 Strength
🦴 Bone health
🚶🏾‍♀️ Mobility
⚖️ Balance
🔥 Metabolic health
🏋🏾‍♀️ Body composition
❤️ Healthy aging
🙌🏾 Independence

Because fitness isn't just about what your body looks like.
Can you carry your groceries?
Lift your luggage?
Get off the floor?
Climb stairs comfortably?
Maintain your independence as you get older?

THAT is fitness too.
And ladies...
No. Lifting weights isn't going to accidentally make you "bulky."

If building significant muscle happened that easily, everybody who wandered past the dumbbell rack twice would be entering a bodybuilding competition. 😂

Your workouts should be preparing your body for the life you want to continue living. Not just helping you chase a smaller number on the scale.

I broke down muscle loss, metabolism, strength training, progressive overload, protein, recovery, and more in my latest NutriHub Journal article.

The belly fat conversation shouldn't only be about getting a flatter stomach. Because not all abdominal fat is the same.

There is fat underneath your skin called subcutaneous fat. Then there's visceral fat, which is stored deeper inside your abdomen around your internal organs.

And excessive visceral fat is associated with increased risk for several cardiometabolic health conditions.

That's why this conversation is bigger than:
"How do I get rid of my belly?" This is about understanding what's happening inside your body.
And no, doing 500 crunches won't specifically burn abdominal fat.

Your abs have been falsely accused of having that authority for entirely too long. 😭 Regular movement, strength training, balanced nutrition, adequate protein and fiber, sleep, stress management, and limiting excessive alcohol can all be pieces of improving your overall metabolic health.

Most importantly: This conversation is about education, NOT body shame.
Your waistline isn't a moral scorecard.
But understanding health risks gives you information you can actually use.

I went much deeper into visceral fat, why it matters, and what you can do about it in The NutriHub Journal.

You're eating healthy. So why isn't the scale moving? 😩

The salads are salad-ing.
Water bottle stays attached to your hand.
You're meal prepping.
You bought the Greek yogurt.
You even walked right past the cookies at Publix like the disciplined citizen you've become.

And the scale said:
"Cute."
😂😂😂

Here's what I want you to understand:
Eating nutritious foods and eating in a way that supports weight loss are not necessarily the same thing.

You can eat incredibly nutritious foods and still consume approximately the amount of energy your body needs to maintain its current weight.

Sometimes it's portions.
Sometimes it's liquid calories.
Sometimes it's the handfuls, bites, sauces, dressings and "I was just tasting it" calories.
Sometimes Monday through Friday isn't actually the problem.
👀 Hello, weekend.

And sometimes your body IS changing, but you're relying entirely on the scale to tell you whether you're making progress.

Before you slash your calories or decide your metabolism has packed its belongings and left, look at the entire picture.

I broke down 9 reasons you may be eating healthy but not losing weight in The NutriHub Journal.
