October brings shorter days, changing weather, and shifts in familiar routines. For some older adults, this time of year may also bring changes in mood, sleep, energy, or interest in usual activities.

An older adult may begin spending more time alone, withdrawing from social activities, sleeping more or less than usual, or finding less enjoyment in hobbies. Paying attention to patterns can help families and caregivers recognize when additional support may be appropriate.

Regular routines, time outdoors during daylight hours, appropriate physical activity, enjoyable hobbies, and connection with others can support emotional well-being throughout the season.

When sadness, worry, isolation, or low energy persists and affects daily life, talking with a health care provider or mental health professional may be a helpful next step.

Excelsior Springs Hospital’s Senior Life Solutions Program provides outpatient mental health services designed for older adults. Participants can receive support through group therapy, individual therapy, psychiatric evaluation, and medication management while continuing to live at home.

Did you know some Senior Life Solutions participants may be able to attend their group therapy sessions virtually?

For older adults who could benefit from mental health support, transportation and getting to appointments can sometimes be an additional challenge.

Senior Life Solutions at Excelsior Springs Hospital offers an intensive outpatient program that includes group therapy, individual therapy, family therapy, nursing education, medication education and management, and after-care planning.

Depending on individual needs and program arrangements, participants may have the option to join group sessions using a computer, tablet or smartphone with an internet connection.

Our team works with each participant to develop a personalized approach to care, helping older adults build coping skills, strengthen communication and find support through life’s challenges.

We had a wonderful time at the Community Center today!

A BIG thank you to Dr. Joseph S. Whitehead, DDS, of Excelsior Springs Family Dentistry, for joining us and sharing his knowledge about maintaining a healthy smile at every age!

From common dental concerns to practical tips for keeping our teeth and gums healthy, we learned a LOT!
