THOUGHT OF THE DAY š
How many times do I hear this in any given day? Educating is a huge part of who I am and what my program is about! A colleague of mine posted this and she is spot on! See š
Can we talk about something I hear ALL the time?
āI donāt eat processed foods.ā
I get it. I used to think that way too.
But one of the biggest things Iāve learned is this:
A long ingredient list doesnāt automatically mean ābad.ā
And a word we canāt pronounce doesnāt automatically mean unhealthy.
Take a blueberry. š«
If we wrote out its naturally occurring sugars, amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, pigments and aroma compounds like an ingredient label, it would look pretty intimidating.
Butā¦itās still a blueberry. š
Thatās why Iāve learned to ask better questions than simply, āIs this processed?ā
What nutrition is it providing me?
Am I getting protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals?
Does it help me stay consistent?
Does it support my goals?
How does my body respond?
Because we can say āI donāt eat processed foodā while sipping an energy drink, grabbing a protein barā, eating a Costco rotisserie chicken, taking gummy vitamins or enjoying a High Noon on the weekend. š
And there is ZERO judgment in that.
The point is that most of us already consume processed foods in some form.
For me, the shift was learning to stop fearing food based solely on an ingredient list and start looking at what that food was actually providing my body.
Protein.
Fiber.
Vitamins + minerals.
Structure.
Consistency.
Nutrition that supports the health Iām trying to create.
That change in perspective changed a whole lot for me. š
āProcessedā is a descriptionānot automatically a verdict on whether a food belongs in a healthy lifestyle.
