Someone else’s urgency doesn’t automatically make it your responsibility.

If you’re used to being the one who fixes things, pausing & not taking action can feel so uncomfortable. Even wrong… 😑

You can care about someone, listen, and show up for them without taking ownership of their feelings, choices, or next steps. 🤎

Before you step in, ask yourself: Is this mine to carry?

If you’re the peacemaker, the people-pleaser, or the one who is always willing to look in the mirror, you may have learned to take responsibility for nearly everything.

You reflect.
You soften your words.
You apologize.
You try to understand their perspective.
You reach out and repair.

Those are beautiful qualities—but they should not be the price you pay to keep a relationship.

Healthy relationships are reciprocal. Both people can reflect. Both people can take responsibility. Both people can apologize, make changes, and care about the impact they have on one another.

Self-awareness is powerful—but it was never meant to make you responsible for everyone else’s part, too.

You can be a person of peace without carrying the entire relationship. 🤍

A few things I find myself saying often in the counseling room. 🤍

Sometimes we need permission to stop carrying what was never ours to manage—to say no, allow someone to be disappointed, or support the people we love without rescuing them.

None of this means you don’t care 💛

It means you are learning to remain connected to others without disconnecting from yourself.

Which one did you need today?

I got to record and fun (& powerful!) podcast this week on parenting & raising emotionally healthy kids. & it’s really gotten me thinking…

The way we relate to ourselves shapes the way we show up in every relationship—including with our children.

Our unhealed wounds, people-pleasing patterns, emotional reactions, and difficulty setting boundaries don’t disappear when we become parents. They often become more visible.

That isn’t an invitation to shame ourselves. It’s an invitation to become curious. ✨

One of the greatest things we can do for the emotional health of the people we love is to continue working on our own.

💛

It feels uncomfortable because it’s new. Not because it’s wrong.

The more you work the “no” muscle, the easier it gets. I promise 💛

A little reintroduction, because life and work have evolved around here.

I’m Lauren, a counselor working virtually with adult women throughout Alabama. My work has always centered around helping women reconnect with themselves, and lately I’ve felt especially drawn to the places where confidence, identity, boundaries and relationships intersect.

The women I work with are often navigating people-pleasing, difficult or emotionally unhealthy relationships, narcissistic abuse, changing seasons of life, or the feeling that somewhere along the way, they’ve lost touch with their own voice.

Outside of the counseling space, I’ve also stepped into a larger role with our restaurant Salterra Coastal Taqueria - helping shape its brand, events and connection to our community. It has given me space to use another creative and meaningful part of who I am.

Life can hold more than one meaningful direction, and I’m looking forward to sharing more from this season. 💛

Beginning October 1, I’ll have space for a few new virtual clients. If you—or someone you know—is looking for counseling support in Alabama, you can learn more or reach out through the link in my bio. 💫

Do you feel like you have to be “doing” in your free time?

What’s going on when you have a few free hours?

12/01/2025

Holidays leading you to feel restrictive or guilt after indulging?

You’re not alone AND it doesn’t have to be that way!

After a holiday party, fun night, etc here’s 1 tip:
Go back to your normal routine! That simple.

Don’t skip meals, drink bone broth for three days or restrict because that will just perpetuate a binge/restrict cycle.

For more tips click my “Substack” link in my bio and check out yesterday’s Sunday reset button!
