Right from the get-go, our precious babies have plans of their own.

Do YOU have a plan for those middle-of-the-night moments when they just won't sleep, no matter what we do? Or for when someone comes to help care for your little one and may not know the current safe sleep recommendations?

Doing some of this planning and having these conversations with everyone who will be watching your little one can help ensure that baby sleeps safely every time.

🚗 It's Teen Driver Safety Week!

Safe driving habits are important for everyone, especially teens who are still gaining experience behind the wheel. Setting clear ground rules helps build safe habits from the start!

Here are a few important rules to discuss with your teen driver:

🚦Buckle up every time. Everyone wears a seat belt, no matter how short the trip.
No alcohol or drugs. Never drive under the influence.
🚦Avoid distractions. Phones, texting, eating, adjusting the radio, and fixing your hair take attention away from the road. The tea can wait!
🚦No speeding. Speeding reduces reaction time and makes crashes more dangerous. Obey posted speed limits. Arriving safely matters more than arriving sooner.
🚦Set passenger rules. Passengers can distract new drivers. Review North Dakota's graduated driver licensing (GDL) restrictions, which limit passengers for certain teen drivers.
🚦Prevent drowsy driving. Fatigue affects attention and reaction time. Emphasize getting enough sleep before driving.
🚦Lead by example. Teens learn from adults. Model safe driving by following traffic laws, wearing your seat belt, avoiding distractions, and staying focused.

Happy Tuesday! That means another safe sleep tip on your feed 😊

Did you know that bed-sharing can significantly increase an infant's risk of sleep-related death? The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that babies sleep on their backs on a firm, flat, separate sleep surface, such as a crib, bassinet, or play yard, in their caregiver's room.

Keeping babies close while giving them their own safe sleep space helps reduce the risk of SIDS and other sleep-related deaths.

Remember: Room-sharing ✅, not bed-sharing ❌

Back is Best! 🌙

Putting babies to sleep on their backs can reduce the risk of sudden unexpected infant death (SUID) by 50% or more.

Did you know? Products marketed to prevent SUID, including pillows, wedges, and inclined sleep products, are not proven to prevent SUID and may pose serious safety risks.

Always place babies on their backs on a firm, flat, level sleep surface with a fitted sheet and no other items in the sleep space.

For every nap. For every bedtime. Every time.

A simple step can save precious lives.

As the days get shorter, visibility becomes even more important for anyone walking, biking, or playing outdoors after sundown. With Halloween and ongoing fall activities, this is especially relevant.

👀 Help others see you!
✨Wear reflective clothing or accessories to help drivers spot you and your children in low-light conditions.
✨Carry a flashlight when walking at dusk or in the dark.
✨Use sidewalks and crosswalks whenever possible.
✨Add reflective elements to jackets, shoes, backpacks, bags, bicycle helmets, bikes, scooters, and other wheeled toys.
✨Make Halloween safer by choosing costumes with reflective elements and using glow sticks or reflective trick-or-treat bags.

💡Tip: Make it fun! Turn getting visible into a family activity by decorating bike helmets, trick-or-treat bags, or other items your kids will wear or carry while out with reflective stickers or materials!

✈️ Our final fire safety tip as we wrap up Fire Prevention Week: Charge Safely While Flying!

This tip is especially relevant as we approach a season of festivities and travel! Remember, if you're traveling with electronics, where you charge them matters. Safe charging practices help protect you and everyone around you.

🔋 Keep portable charging devices on the tray table while charging.

🚫 Never charge devices in overhead compartments or charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane.

If a battery overheats or fails, keeping it visible and accessible helps the flight crew respond quickly.
