Have you ever talked yourself out of something you already knew?

On paper, it made sense.

You could explain all the reasons you should say yes. You made the pros-and-cons list. You asked other people what they thought. You kept thinking, hoping that eventually you’d arrive at an answer that felt certain.

But underneath all that thinking, something in you already felt like a yes…or a no.

Our bodies can give us information before we have language for it. A sense of tension. Relief. Ease. Resistance. A feeling that something is off—or that something fits.

That doesn’t mean every uncomfortable feeling is a sign to walk away, or that we should make every decision based on instinct alone.

But when you’re stuck in an overthinking loop, sometimes the question isn’t:

“What else do I need to figure out?”

It’s:

“What am I already noticing?”

Save this for the next time you’re overthinking a decision. 💛

Does your three-year-old need a tablet every time you go to a restaurant?

Christina has a pretty strong opinion on this one. 😅

For very young children, boredom, waiting, frustration, and learning how to behave in different environments are all things they’re still learning to navigate.

And if a tablet immediately appears every time sitting still becomes difficult, there are fewer opportunities to practice those skills.

That doesn’t mean parents need perfectly behaved toddlers.

Bring the crayons. Play I Spy. Talk to them. Let them bring a small toy. Take a walk while you’re waiting for the food. And yes, sometimes you may need to leave the table for a few minutes.

The goal isn’t perfection.

It’s helping young children gradually learn: I can be bored. I can wait. I can be frustrated. And I have ways to get through those feelings without always needing a screen.

An important distinction Christina makes in the Reel: she is not talking about children who use tablets as AAC or other assistive communication devices.

Have you ever spent an entire weekend “resting”…and somehow started Monday just as tired?

Sometimes we stop doing, but we never stop taking things in.

The show is on. The phone is in our hand. A podcast fills the walk. Music fills the drive. Even the few minutes waiting in line become another opportunity to scroll.

None of those things are inherently bad—and they can absolutely be enjoyable or restful.

But they’re different from giving yourself a little space with nothing demanding your attention.

There’s an Italian phrase we love: il dolce far niente—the sweetness of doing nothing.

For people who are accustomed to accomplishing, solving, planning, and making good use of every minute, that kind of emptiness can feel surprisingly uncomfortable.

Swipe through for a few small ways to practice leaving some of your day unfilled. 💛

Before Donna helped others decide which rooms were worth staying in, she had to learn it for herself.

Today, we’re celebrating a very special milestone for Armonía founder Donna Marie Marino, LMFT. ❤️

Donna is officially a published contributing author in the new anthology The Cost of Staying in the Room: Women, Power, and the Price of Leadership.

Her chapter: The Rooms. The Costs. The Gifts., takes readers into some of the rooms that shaped the woman and therapist so many of us know today.

From her childhood, to corporate boardrooms, to motherhood, and eventually to her decision to leave corporate leadership and build an entirely different life.

Some rooms taught her how to survive.

Some taught her how to stand her ground.

And some taught her when it was time to leave.

Throughout the chapter is a question that will be familiar to some of Donna’s clients:

What are the gifts that came from the crisis?

Not because painful experiences need to happen for a reason.

But because on the other side, we may discover something we didn’t have before: a truth we can no longer ignore, a boundary we’re finally willing to hold, a voice we’ve learned to use, or a version of ourselves we hadn’t met yet.

Donna’s story is deeply personal—and it offers a glimpse into many of the experiences that ultimately shaped the work she does today.

We couldn’t be more excited to see her story in print.

The Cost of Staying in the Room is available now in paperback, hardcover, and on Kindle.

Not everything your child has to do is going to be fun—and that’s okay.

There will be boring classes.

Homework they don’t want to finish.

Waiting when they’d rather be doing something else.

Tasks that require attention even when they’re not particularly interesting.

As parents, it can be tempting to make uncomfortable moments easier, more entertaining, or more stimulating. But Christina encourages parents to think about what kids can learn from experiencing a little manageable boredom and discomfort, too.

Part of emotional regulation is gradually learning:

“I don’t like how this feels, but I can handle it.”

That doesn’t mean ignoring anxiety, sensory needs, neurodivergence, or expecting every child to regulate in exactly the same way.

It means helping your child build tools to stay present when something is frustrating, boring, or simply not what they would choose.

Because sometimes “I don’t want to do this” and “I can still do this” can both be true.

Change can look a lot more impressive once you’re on the other side of it.

From a distance, we call it growth.

A new career.
A new home.
A relationship ending or changing.
Children leaving home.
A new identity.
A different version of your life.

But while you’re actually living through it?

You may feel less like you’re “growing” and more like everything you knew about yourself is coming apart.

The routines are different. The old role doesn’t fit. The new one doesn’t feel like yours yet. You may miss what was while simultaneously knowing you can’t go back to it.

That messy middle doesn’t mean the change is going badly.

Sometimes transformation feels like losing your shape before you understand what you’re becoming.

Send this to someone in the mush. 💛

Parents, you don’t have to get the whole story the second your child gets in the car.

After a full school day of paying attention, following directions, navigating friendships, transitioning between activities, and managing emotions, some kids get to the car with very little capacity left.

Then come the questions:

“How was your day?”
“What did you do?”
“Who did you sit with?”
“Do you have homework?”
“Why are you being so short with me?”

And suddenly everyone is frustrated.

Christina’s reminder: sometimes your child needs a little quiet before they can connect.

A short answer doesn’t necessarily mean disrespect. And “I don’t know” may genuinely mean they haven’t processed what happened or figured out how they’re feeling yet.

Try letting the car be somewhere they can land.

Give them a snack. Put on some music. Let there be silence. Save the questions for later.

You may find they’re much more willing to talk once they’ve had some time to decompress.

“I know it’s irrational, but I still can’t stop thinking about it.”

Sometimes telling yourself to stop worrying only gives your mind another thing to fight with.

Instead, there can be value in getting curious about where the thought goes next.

If the realistic worst-case scenario happened…then what?

What would you do next?
And then what?
And after that?

Sometimes, a few rounds in, the story begins to shift from “Everything will fall apart” to “This would be hard, and here’s how I might respond.”

That isn’t pretending difficult things don’t happen. And it isn’t promising everything will work out exactly as planned.

It’s remembering that you wouldn’t arrive at a hard moment empty-handed. You would bring your experience, your resources, your relationships, and everything you’ve already learned from making it through difficult chapters before.

Swipe through for a different way to work with a worst-case-scenario thought.

And an important note: if following an anxious thought makes your panic more intense rather than helping you find perspective, you don’t have to keep pushing through it alone. That can be something to explore with a mental health professional.

Want your child to spend less time on their phone? Taking it away is only part of the equation.

You also have to give them something worth putting it down for.

And Christina says that starts with figuring out what your child actually likes to do—not what you wish they were interested in.

For some kids, that might mean giving them a little more independence, challenge, and even what Christina calls “safe danger.”

Climbing. Building. Making something with real tools. Learning how to use age-appropriate equipment safely. Trying something that’s challenging enough that they might not get it right the first time.

The goal isn’t unnecessary risk. It’s giving kids opportunities to learn skills, build confidence, exercise judgment, and discover what they’re capable of with appropriate guidance.

Because if we’re trying to help kids build a life away from their phones, that offline life needs room for exploration, too.

Think about the version of you from five years ago.

Did they know exactly how everything was going to work out?

Probably not.

They didn’t know which plans would change. Which relationships would evolve. Which doors would close. Which unexpected opportunities would appear. Or exactly who they would become along the way.

And yet—

you’re here.

Not because everything happened according to plan. Not because every hard thing magically worked itself out.

But because when life changed, you responded.

You made decisions with the information you had. You adjusted. You asked for help. You learned things you couldn’t have known beforehand. You kept moving.

So if you’re standing in uncertainty right now, remember:

The fact that you can’t see exactly how this chapter will unfold doesn’t mean you won’t know what to do when you get there. 💛
