my eye is still twitching from all the hoops I had to jump through to get pre-approved for a mortgage as a self employed single mom…but after 5 years of keeping shop, everything is in place and I am officially ready to buy the hedgewitch granny core cottage of my dreamsšŸŽ‰
The not so great news is that I’m wildly priced out of Florence and all the surrounding towns.
It feels really important that I live in the community I’m serving, so I have a lot to consider.

Somewhere on the edge of town has to be a person with plenty of resources who is saying goodbye to a cute little house and is willing to keep the sale affordable because they care about knowing their beloved home and gardens will be tended by a community herbalist... (or maybe I just read too many cozy witch novels where this kind of thing happens all the time)…it is western ma afterall & the magic of the valley does have a way of working things out, so I will dream 🧿

I’m keeping a close eye on listings, but there’s nothing more efficient than recruiting some local friends to spread the word and be on the lookout. Townie busy bodies in the know of all the neighborhood ongoings, this is your time to shine!

It’s a bit vulnerable to lay it all out here so openly, but I’d like to move before deep winter sets in more than I’d like to keep my pride- so here goes!

What I’m looking for:
✨In Florence/Leeds/NoHo, Westhampton, Williamsburg, Easthampton, Hatfield, Whately. (will consider going further out to Greenfield or Holyoke for the right place)
✨2-3 bedrooms
✨single level living or at least 1 bedroom & bathroom on 1st floor for my kiddo’s accessibility needs
✨under 1,300 sq ft
✨a private yard, surrounded by woods, space for gardening
✨the more floral wallpaper and character the better. hoping to appreciate an older grandma style home with good bones and a dry basement.
✨an in-law or ADU for my sweetie would be incredible
✨To keep payments manageable, my ideal range is under $280k, and my absolute max is $320k. (even smaller homes go for $450k-$750++++ here) so I truly am looking for a miracle!

I would so appreciate any leads or creative support you may have. Thanks for keeping us in mindšŸ’•

In one week we will be hosting a q***r Armenian healing retreat here in western ma for the small group of diasporans who have been meeting online every other week for 3 years across the span of thousands of miles and many time zones…and it will be the very first time we are all together in person, sitting around a big table eating ghapama, sipping soorj, dancing and giving hugs all around.

The seed for this gathering was planted nearly two years ago, and I cannot wait to welcome 13 other q***r Armenians whose love, connection and support have meant the absolute world to me.

Some western armenians, some eastern. some went to armenian school and were steeped in diaspora community, others (like myself) didn’t know a single other armenian outside of family growing up. many speak our languages fluently, some of us are learning word by word, phrase by phase. some grew up going to armenia every summer and some have never been. Individually we all live somewhere on a wide spectrum of armo experiences- but these two core identities- Armenian *and* Q***r, Q***r *and* Armenian- being able to exist together so organically is something I’ve longed for, prayed for and showed up to cultivate for a very long time. These folks are actual answered prayers and I am beyond honored to have them here!

So as you might imagine, I’ve been in going into hardcore grandma hosting mode, getting everything ready, when these local dear ones rolled up to remind me that I’m not doing this alone šŸ’•

I’m sure I’ll have a whole lot of personal reflections to share after, but for now the excitement buzzing in the shop is palpable! We’ll be closed the first weekend of October for the retreat but I’ll see you in this rainy weekend and the rest of week as usual šŸ‚

Back to school means it’s that time of year babesšŸ‚
In addition to restocking our wildly popular Immune Boost Tea (featuring Armenian wild thyme -oortz) we made you a few new seasonal goodies.
✨created a new anti-viral immune system support tincture for Templefest a couple weeks ago to fend off conference crud and absolutely fell in love. You can still taste the jackass bitters (iykyk) but now you get the rich notes of elderberry & slight tingle of echinacea root at the end. It’s got layers for days!
✨Elderberry Rosehip Oxymel- with apple c***r & honey- yum
✨Elderberry Glycerite: alcohol free extract that started out as a request on glycerite making day from a student in my Herbalism Through the Wheel of the Year class and ended up earning a spot on the shelf. The deep purple color on this one is mesmerizing šŸ’œ

TLDR: Giant Swallowtail butterflies coming šŸ˜admittedly it’s been awhile since I’ve gone to thoroughly tend my gardens…I busted my hump getting everything ready for the growing season in spring and early summer…then came the heat. Climate change kicked us off with an unseasonably hot late spring, my POTS heat intolerance deemed garden chores unbearable after 10am, MCAS flares triggered hard every time I stepped foot in my plots and perimenopause said, oh you have work to do? here’s a frozen shoulder.

My garden is in absolute late summer over grown chaos and it’s kind of glorious….for the first time in all these years of keeping up with a regular harvesting/pruning/weeding schedule, this time around I made the decision to let go and let garden. Today I went to check on everyone and was stunned by just how fast nature took over…
For the first time ever- not 1, not 2 but 4 giant swallowtails made their chrysalis on my grandma Rue plants, monarchs are munching by the milkweed patches & unidentified fuzzy caterpillars are living their best caterpillar life until it’s time to do their razzle dazzle transformation in a cocoon.
I feel a particular kinship with the odd little piles of goo/soon to be butterflies that are deep in their process of transition as I embark on my own wild metamorphosis- hot flashes, power surges, brain flops, cranky irritable moods & all.
42 was a big one for me personally, and I’ve had some massive life work to do outside the shop- navigating an incredibly stressful legal process of getting full physical custody of my child who I’ve been solo parenting all along and finalizing the overlapping divorce that has been looming over me for more than 10 years.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence on the timing of when all these caterpillars chose my beloved gardens as a home to do their big work in….perhaps we will come out the other side together. Now that I’m no longer legally bound to my younger self’s past & well on my way to my version of q***r midlife, I feel as if growing my own wings might just be possiblešŸ¦‹

Annnnyway, here’s a sweet little slide of my september gardens doing fall garden things šŸ’•

All set up at Templefest šŸ—ļø I’m so excited for both workshops I’ll be presenting, but first, the goblin night market this evening šŸ˜
It’s so incredibly rare that I pack up shop and set up a booth, so I’ve been making special herbal treasures all summer in preparation.
So grateful for all the helping hands that made light work today!
We’ll see you back at the shop on Tuesday šŸ’•

If you were dancing in the club when this song first came out, chances are you’re in perimenopause nowšŸ„µšŸ”„šŸ„µ
Ahhhhh midlife…a time when the hot flashes rage like an inferno, night sweats soak your sheets straight through and one may without warning become inclined to breathe fire on fools like a dragon scorching the earth around them….

I’ve heard from enough folks in their 40s going *through it* to know that it’s not just me, so it was high time I formulated a little something for my fellow hot flashing cranky babes in the crowd.

I’ve been guzzling sage tea for the power surges all year- but wanted an on the go option with a little something extra cooling and soothing to take the edge off.
This formula features fresh lemon balm, green sage, violet leaf, yarrow and a pinch of lavender….and I’m so in love✨
I wish I would have had this blend during my second puberty while I was on Testosterone a few years back, but better late then never!

Are you a super experienced local herbalist who currently offers consultations? We’d love to connect! Every day I get more folks looking for consults than I could ever get to while tending to all the other aspects of running the shop.
I’m looking to build a solid referral network to connect folks with a local herbalist who will be a great match for each individual customer, so please reach out with an intro and include any areas you specialize in šŸ’Œ

Also planting a little seed to host regular or guest herbalists at the shop 🌱

I look forward to connecting with you!

Processed a bunch of mugwort I harvested & hung to dry earlier this summer, and made this year’s batch of Witch’s Brew: Dreamy Ritual Tea on the full moon. I usually put this blend out in September…and maybe it’s because of all the cool nights and rainy 70 degree days…Could be that lammas is in a couple days or that I’ve been preparing for Templefest coming up right around the corner, but either way- the season of the witch is almost upon us, so around here anyway, why wait? šŸ–¤šŸŽƒ
ps, while I like to wait until mugwort flowers later in the season to harvest for many other preparations, for the flavor enjoyabilty factor I prefer the young tender leaves in this one!
