Communicating with someone who has dementia can take patience, but small changes in the way we speak can make a big difference. ā¤ļø
Try to keep communication simple and reassuring:
⢠Use short, clear sentences
⢠Speak in a calm, gentle tone
⢠Avoid arguing or trying to prove them wrong
⢠Give one instruction at a time
⢠Allow extra time for them to respond
⢠Offer reassurance if they seem confused or upset
Sometimes the goal is not to correct every detail ā itās to help your loved one feel safe, respected, and understood.
At A Motherās Touch In-Home Health Care, we believe compassionate care begins with patience, understanding, and communication.
