This is the example of fuel economy on the Rogue Fitness Echo Bike
Husband was pushing harder, expending more energy. By 300 calories, he had covered 10.65 miles.
His wife on the other hand only burned 271 calories on an identical machine, but covered 11.89 miles.
How did she cover more distance burning less fuel?
The same way you do in your car. Slower acceleration, slower pace overall = greater fuel efficiency.
This is typically the opposite of what we want in the gym, we want to burn more fuel in less time. This is the "High Intensity Interval Training" everyone thinks they're doing.
High Intensity is max effort over a short period of time, typically less than a minute.
Recovery could be 2 - 4x longer than the actual activity depending on the Intensity.
So is this bad for the wife?
No. Different engine, different fuel efficiency.
