If you have ever wondered, "How often should I get a massage?" - you are not alone! π
It's a great question and the answer depends on your circumstances and your goals. Let's break this down a little more. The general "rule" for bodywork is to have one session per month. Regular massage is great maintenance for your body and mind (think of it as an "oil change" for your body and nervous system). πββοΈ
But if you're experiencing consistent pain or discomfort, you might want to consider more frequent massage. Let's say you are experiencing pain or discomfort and you do come in for one massage - great! This is when your massage therapist will likely suggest that you come back in a week or two - and no, we aren't just trying to sell this to you. π
After getting your initial massage, your body will feel better but then it will want to go back to its old holding patterns. You might notice that within a few days or perhaps a week, your shoulders start to scrunch up, that lower back pain sneaks back up on you and your neck starts to feel stiff again. These may be signs that you need more consistent bodywork. β¨
When you have a specific goal (decreasing pain, increasing range of motion or regulating your nervous system), it is suggested that you get a massage once every week or two for 4-8 weeks so we can train your body and nervous system to do something new. π

βοΈ Tongue scraping is the simple practice of using a tongue scraper to remove the coating of toxins that builds up over night and/or after meals.
The tongue is the beginning of our digestive tract, a gateway from the outside world to the internal world. By taking care of the tongue, we can reduce Ama (toxic build up), increase our Agni (digestive fire) and learn more about our health in general. π

What's one thing you can do for yourself in between your sessions at Taproot? π€
Abhyanga (self-massage) is a great Ayurvedic practice to add to your routine. π€²
This simple & soothing practice can be so beneficial to our mental, emotional and physical states. π
π± Warm up your choice of oil. Warm oil is more easily absorbed by the skin and tissues!
π± Certain body types do better with certain oils, but sesame oil is generally good for most people. Use chemical free, organic, cold pressed oils - avoid mineral and baby oils.
π± Gently massage your oil onto the face and the rest of the body, using long strokes and the arms & legs with circular strokes around the joints and belly (use a clockwise motion to promote proper digestion).
π± Spend between 5-20 minutes massaging and give more attention (love) to areas you seem to avoid.
π± Sit for about 20 minutes (what a great time for a short meditation!).
π± Use a specific towel to wipe off excess oil and then take a shower. This will open the pores, allowing the oil to soak deeper into your skin.
