Payton Wolf was about halfway through a 12-hour shift as a patient care assistant when her patient awoke feeling sad, lost and confused.

"I think he needed a lending hand, a friendly face. If it were my grandfather, I would want him to not feel so lost," said Payton.

She decided to play the Elvis Presley song, “Can’t Help Falling in Love” on her phone and started singing along, which put the patient more at ease.

Payton, who has been with UCHealth since January 2023, aspires to become a nurse, like her mother.

“In the best way, she kind of brainwashed me into being in health care. I love it,” she said. “I just like caring for people.”

Thank you, Payton, for your work to improve lives. ♥️

In a touching moment of compassion and collaboration, our UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies team brought a hospitalized couple together for a final goodbye.

A wife and husband, on different floors, were both in our care. With the husband nearing the end of his life, our team made it their mission to reunite them. They moved their beds side by side, allowing the couple to hold hands and share their love one last time.

Through collaboration among eight nurses, two patient care assistants, respiratory therapy staff and others, the couple and their family members could be together during the husband's final hours.

The wife said, "Just to hold his hand – something so simple can mean the world."

When Pam heard about a table tennis program in Fort Collins called NeuroPong, she was uncertain but figured she would test her backhand skills.

Founded by Dr. Antonio Barbera after accidentally discovering that table tennis helped manage some of his most bothersome MS symptoms, NeuroPong is a program for people living with neurodegenerative conditions like MS, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

“As a physician, I started looking for ways to use ping-pong for people living with MS to see if there were any studies investigating possible benefits of the sport. If it was working for me, I figured it might help others,” he said.

Read Pam and Dr. Barbera's story online.

Research shows mental and physical benefits of ping-pong. Playing ping-pong may help with movement disorders while also reducing loneliness.

During 911 calls, medication doses for infants and children need to be precise. A new invention makes that easier.

A team of CSU School of Biomedical Engineering students collaborated with the Trauma Research Department at UCHealth to design a more accurate tool for weighing pediatric patients and calculating their medication doses in emergency situations.

Idea arose when students learned that paramedics used Broselow Pediatric Emergency Tape to calculate proper medication dose to administer.

Terah Hochhauser is a nurse at UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies. She recently went above and beyond to assist a patient in transitioning from a feeding tube to eating by mouth.

She created a motivational sign that read: “Food is medicine. It’s going to help you get out of here. It’s going to help you go home.” She also learned the patient's favorite foods to make the transition a little easier and skipped meal breaks to dine at the patient’s bedside, where they connected over a mutual love for cats.

The patient had been in the hospital for weeks after undergoing several surgeries and had been struggling to regain her appetite. With family living far away, she didn’t have loved ones immediately available for support.

However, through Terah's dedication and support, the patient's feeding tube was removed and she was able to go home.

Thank you, Terah, for your work to improve lives. ♥️

It all started with a heartwarming delivery. ❤

Two weeks ago, UCHealth Longs Peak Hospital Foundation was surprised with a $102 donation, a plate of cookies and a sweet note written in crayon asking that the donation support cancer patients. We set out on a mission to find the generous donor, which turned out to be three, young philanthropists.

Little did Charli, Avri, and Emma know, their act of kindness inspired a wave of generosity. Their $102 donation has multiplied- almost 30-fold- to $2,825 through matched donations.

Read the story and consider matching Charli & friends' $102 donation at the link below.

UPDATE: Charli's parents have contacted Longs Peak Hospital Foundation! More information coming soon...

Can you help us find Charli?

Our colleagues at Longs Peak Hospital Foundation recently received a beautiful gift from a local philanthropist. Charli delivered a handwritten note, cash donation, and cookies to support cancer care in Longmont.

The letter reads, "We decided to raise money for cancer because it is good to spread awareness. I hope this 102 dollars for cancer will help you and these cookies. From: Charli.”

Together, let’s ensure this gift receives the proper recognition and thanks it deserves. 👏

UCHealth Longs Peak Hospital Foundation (LPHF) is on a quest to express our gratitude to a young philanthropist named Charli who recently made a significant contribution to support cancer care in Longmont.

Eagles Fight Cancer. 💜

The Colorado Eagles’s annual event raises awareness for those affected by cancer, honors cancer warriors, and generously supports UCHealth Northern Colorado Foundation’s Oncology Patient Assistance fund.

This past weekend, Colorado Eagles players wore specialty lavender jerseys and their helmets donned the names of cancer fighters during both games. UCHealth patients, employees, and their families were invited to hold the American flag during the singing of the national anthem and participate in the “Paint the Ice" experience after the game.

Donations will support UCHealth cancer patients by helping pay for expenses like rent, mortgages, utilities, gasoline, and more so they can focus on their health. Thank you, Colorado Eagles and Eagles fans for your caring commitment to our communities!
