One of the sweetest parts of what we do is getting to watch our little patients grow right before our eyes.

From those first tiny movements on the screen to a little face, hands, feet, and a personality all their own… somehow, they’re only getting older, baby. 🥹

What starts as one of their first visits with us becomes a whole pregnancy journey—and we feel so lucky to be along for the ride. 💚

From little beginnings to our not-so-little babies. We’ll never get tired of watching you grow. 🫶

Breast changes during pregnancy are normal. But not every change is just pregnancy. I’ve cared for patients diagnosed with breast cancer while pregnant, and because we caught it early, they got the right treatment, had healthy babies, and did well. If something feels off, get it evaluated. Don’t talk yourself out of it. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, stay aware, stay proactive, and always stay hopeful.

They make it look easy…but there is a tremendous amount of skill behind every image on that screen. 🩺💙
October is Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month, and we’re celebrating the incredible sonographers who play such an important role in the care we provide at Signature Perinatal Center.
In MFM, an ultrasound is much more than an opportunity to see your baby. Our sonographers spend their days carefully evaluating tiny structures, obtaining precise measurements, documenting fetal growth and development, and patiently working around babies who don’t always have the same plans we do. 😂
And while their work is highly technical, they also get to share some of the sweetest moments of pregnancy with our families.
To our sonography team: thank you for the skill behind every measurement, the patience behind every difficult view, and the care behind every scan. 💚
We appreciate you this month and every month!

1. Know your risks before they become complications.
Your medical history matters. Your blood pressure, diabetes risk, previous pregnancies, medications, family history, age, and other health conditions can all affect how your pregnancy should be monitored. Pregnancy care should never be one-size-fits-all.

2. A normal ultrasound is reassuring, but it isn’t a guarantee.
Ultrasound is incredibly powerful, but it has limitations. Some conditions develop later, some cannot be seen on ultrasound, and some findings only become meaningful when we follow them over time. Timing and follow-up matter.

3. Screening and diagnosis are not the same thing.
A screening test tells us about risk. It does not necessarily tell us whether your baby has a condition. If a result comes back abnormal, understand what it actually means before assuming the worst or making major decisions.

4. Trends matter more than a single snapshot.
One blood pressure. One glucose value. One fetal weight. One ultrasound. They are all pieces of a larger picture. In high-risk pregnancy, we often learn the most by watching how things change over time.

5. Don’t wait until something feels wrong to pay attention to your health.
Many pregnancy complications give us opportunities to identify risk early and intervene. Keep your appointments, know your numbers, understand your warning signs, and ask questions when something doesn’t make sense.

The goal isn’t to make pregnancy scary. It’s to identify risk early enough that we have the opportunity to do something about it.

If you’ve had an ultrasound with us and thought, “Wow, this is taking longer than I expected…” there is a reason. 👀

At Signature Perinatal Center, every ultrasound is performed with a specific purpose and tailored to you, your baby, your gestational age, and the reason for your visit.

Depending on the type of exam, our sonographers may be evaluating fetal growth and anatomy, amniotic fluid, placental location, cervical length, fetal movement and well-being, or specialized blood-flow measurements known as Dopplers.

And we're looking at some incredibly tiny structures. During a detailed anatomy scan, for example, we're carefully evaluating your baby's developing organs and structures from multiple views and obtaining specific measurements and images.

Sometimes baby gives us exactly the view we need. Other times? Baby has completely different plans 😅 Position, movement, gestational age, and the complexity of the exam can all affect how long your ultrasound takes.

Our priority isn't getting you in and out as quickly as possible. It's obtaining the images and information needed for a thorough evaluation of your pregnancy. 💙💚

So if your scan takes a little longer than you expected, settle in and enjoy the extra baby time. 👶✨

Este mes y todos los meses, estamos aquí para ustedes.

This month and every month, we are here for you.

The families we care for come from everywhere. Different languages, different journeys, different fears about what a high risk pregnancy means for them and their baby. We see all of it. And we meet every family exactly where they are.

If you or someone you love needs a maternal fetal medicine specialist in the Fort Lauderdale or Broward County area, we are here. In English, in Spanish, and with as much time as you need.

You saw the reasons a cerclage may be considered. Now, what exactly is it?

A cerclage is a procedure used to help support the cervix when additional support may be needed during pregnancy. It is not performed in the office, and whether it is appropriate depends on the individual pregnancy and clinical history.

At Signature Perinatal Center, the goal is to help you understand the “why” behind each recommendation, not just hear a medical term and leave with more questions.
