😱Here is a study of a patient with oxalate nephropathy found by high creatinine levels
😳This study is of a patient with no history of kidney disease.
👉What they found was oxalate crystals in his urine.
👉A renal ultrasound found no obstruction or stones.
👉He did have anemia that was attributed his kidney injury
😱A kidney biopsy revealed oxalate nephropathy
What did his health history reveal ?
😫He was trying to eat “healthy” with regular consumption of almond milk, wheat germ and almonds!
😫He also consumed 2-3 tbsp of tomato paste , Brazil nuts, walnuts , pistachios , pecans, almonds and several tablespoons of cocoa powder and 500mg vitamin C!!!
😱And a liter of almond milk
😣He was diagnosed with acute kidney injury as a result of trying to eat “healthy”

My name is Mandy, but many people call me Dr. Mandy.
🙌I am a doctor in clinical nutrition. I am also a Certified nutrition specialist (CNS), Functional Diagnostic nutrition practitioner (FDN-P) and a certified clinical nutritionist (CCN).

👉Let's start by doing a quick review of copper.
Copper enzymes regulate various physiologic pathways that include:
❎energy production
❎iron metabolism
❎connective tissue maturation
❎neurotransmission
❎antioxidant – via superoxide dismutase and ceruloplasmin
❎Cofactor in histamine degradation via the DAO enzyme
There are 3 types of imbalances in Copper:
❎A simple deficiency (often seen with fast oxidizers)
❎A simple overload or excess (often seen in slow oxidizers)
❎Biologically unavailable due to improper valence or other factors
Symptoms can range depending on the type of imbalance you have. These can range from:

😩 Did you know that your histamine issues could be genetically based? 👉 Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP’s) within certain enzymes within your body can have large health outcomes! Here is a quick summary of just some of the SNP’s related to histamine ✅MAO-Monoamine oxidase A Encodes mitochondrial enzymes which catalyze the oxidative deamination of amines. See histamine relationship below. ✅RFK-Riboflavin Kinase Mutation creates Riboflavin deficiency, which is needed to make FAD-the cofactor for MAO-A to degrade histamine. ✅ABP1- Amiloride binding protein (ABP1), also known as diamine oxidase (DAO) and amine oxidase copper domain-containing protein 1 (AOC1). Encodes for DAO involved in histamine degradation in the gut. Also clears histamine with the DAO enzyme. ✅HNMT-Histamine N-Methyltransferase Produces the enzyme that uses a methyl group to degrade histamine in the body ✅CYP1A2-Cytochrome P450 Family 1 Subfamily A Member 2 Involved in converting progesterone into cortisol which has mast cell stabilizing effect. ✅HRH1, HRH2, HRH3-histamine receptors Various functions such as smooth muscle contraction, gastric acid secretion, and plays a role in inflammation and allergy. If there are many SNPs, and low methyl groups, there is the potential for high histamine and leaky gut. Over time, this may contribute to autoimmune disorders. I think part of the problem is that they have been confronted with so much information, they develop the infamous confirmation bias. ✳️Our beliefs are often based on paying attention to the information that upholds them—while at the same time tending to ignore the information that challenges them. ❓What is confirmation bias? 👉A confirmation bias is a type of cognitive bias that involves favoring information that confirms your previously existing beliefs or biases. 👉Confirmation biases impact how we gather information, but they also influence how we interpret and recall information 👉We often see this in politics, especially lately in debates that involve our health decisions 😩Most people seek out information sources that are aligned with their position. 😩The problem with that is, it causes you to miss opportunities that may have been beneficial for your healing! 💪 The good news is, you can overcome this by gaining knowledge you did not have before. ❓As a bladder pain coach, I get a TON of questions. ❓Today the question is: “Dr. Mandy, what does remission mean?”❓ 👉 I get this question often, because there seems to be confusion about remissions vs. cure. First, let’s separate fact from fiction. ❌FICTION: Other people have cured IC. I find this very misleading. Those people who are claiming this do not understand the pathophysiology of autoimmune conditions. ✅FACT: IC is an autoimmune/autoinflammatory process. Autoimmune diseases, by nature, cannot be cured. This is due to memory B cells and autoreactive memory antibodies. By nature, autoimmune diseases are not curable. ❌FICTION: Once my IC is in remission, I can go back to doing what I did before. ✅FACT: Although you may be able to reintroduce some foods back into your diet, the truth it, what triggered your IC the first time is likely to trigger it again.
