So, what exactly is ABA?
If you’ve heard the term Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) but aren’t quite sure what it means, you’re not alone! It’s usually the most common question we get when we talk to parents.
ABA is an evidence-based approach that helps children build meaningful skills that support their independence, communication, and everyday lives.
For young children, that might look like:
-Learning new ways to communicate wants, needs, and feelings.
-Building social skills and connecting with others (for in-home ABA, that usually means with siblings!).
-Learning to play, explore, and participate in everyday activities.
-Developing skills to navigate big feelings and challenging moments.
But here’s something important: ABA isn’t just about teaching skills. It’s about understanding the child behind the behavior.
Every child is different. That’s why quality ABA should be individualized, respectful, and built around each child’s strengths, needs, interests, and family goals.
At Kith&Kin ABA, we believe learning happens best when children feel safe, supported, and understood and when parents feel like valued partners every step of the way.
For our military families, a formal autism diagnosis is required for TRICARE to cover ABA services. If you’re unsure where to start or what steps to take, reach out to us! We’re happy to help you navigate the process and understand your next steps. You don’t have to figure it all out alone.
Have questions about ABA or whether it might be a good fit for your family? We’d love to connect!
