October is Infant Loss Awareness Month & October 15th is a day of Remembrance.

Some may be grief filled, others angry, others filled with a gentle peace.

There is no timeline to grief and no right or wrong way to move through it.

Your baby is remembered & loved

I visited with a family I've worked with previously and their new baby. The oldest is 9, baby is 9 weeks with 2 babies in between.

She pumped with the first two due to work needs & hated it- took forever, uncomfortable, got "just enough"

2 yrs of breastfeeding and pumping with a fl**ge that wasn't correctly sized. Sessions that weren't painful but also not comfortable, longer sessions that yielded " just enough for daycare"

Her 3rd baby she said nope, we'll just exclusively breastfeed. She said the same thing when I first saw her with baby #4.

Today she asked if we could do a fl**ge fit because she thought she may try pumping again- "even though I don't like it."

A few mins and adjustments later & she might (almost) like pumping.

She's been using a fl**ge 7x too big

A small change, a more comfortable fit, milk flow in seconds vs minutes & a much shorter pump session that meets her baby's needs.

A small change that will make all the difference moving forward.

If pumping is uncomfortable, causing discomfort/pain or taking longer than expected- a fl**ge fitting might be worth a second look.

Have you had a fl**ge fitting? Has it made a difference? Tell us your experience.

Assessing for fl**ge fit has been gaining the attention of pump companies and parents.
Checking fit in pregnancy & assessing right after delivery may mean they arent the right size. It may provide a range to work in.
The pump recommended by friends, your insurance or was a great deal may not be the best one for your specific needs.

Meeting with a knowledgeable lactation consultant (that's me) and assessing your fl**ges & your pump can improve comfort overall, support supply and may help increase supply.

Touch is our first sense to be activated before or after birth. The calming hand on your belly to settle those kicks to the bladder or ribs, the gentle voice agreeing that spicy chicken might not have been the best breakfast.

Gentle touch and infant massage can calm the vagus nerve, relax parents and baby and help everyone settle into sleep.

Reducing fussiness, promoting feelings of security, calmer nights and naptimes
