Ampcare, LLC Ampcare is developing therapeutic neuromuscular stimulation technologies for dysphagia treatment.

AMPCARE, LLC was established in 2007 to develop therapeutic neuromuscular stimulation technologies for the treatment of dysphagia, or swallowing difficulties. Among other accomplishments, AMPCARE has built a strong patent portfolio, generated clinical data and has initiated US regulatory filings and recently received our initial FDA 510k clearance to market the first portion of our device portfolio. We are committed to delivering positive patient outcomes and innovative products specifically designed to meet the needs of the patient, medical professional and payer by improving the options and availability of dysphagia treatment techniques. AMPCARE’s unique treatment approach will allow for safer oral intake of food in populations who have difficulty swallowing.

When a PT loves helping SLPs apply NMES and exercise science to the swallowing muscles....you get ☝️this ☝️ kind of energy!

Yes, Ampcare was founded by an SLP/PT duo....

Yes, the entire protocol is rooted in science...

And YES, the in-person trainings are as entertaining as this video looks 😅

✉️If you're an Ampcare-certified SLP, share this post with someone who deserves this kind of energy (and education) in their dysphagia education!

👉If you're just now joining us, we're wrapping up a 3-part series on head and neck cancer and dysphagia therapy - particularly NMES!

Make sure to go to our page, catch up on parts 1 and 2, and save each post to refer back to.

Do you work with the head and neck cancer population? Have you considered NMES for those who have completed their chemo/radiation/surgical intervention?

✉️Send us a DM so we can support you!

Not all “NMES” is actually NMES. True NMES requires muscle contraction!

Electrode placement determines what happens as a result of that muscle contraction.
☝️If the electrodes are above the hyoid, it pulls the hyolaryngeal complex forward & upward.
👇If the electrodes are below the hyoid, it pulls the larynx down.

Ampcare pulls the hyolaryngeal complex forward/anterior & upward/superior to create resistance for the patient to swallow against. THIS is why we don’t use a bolus with Ampcare’s Effective Swallow Protocol (ESP).

Ampcare ESP is a REHABILITATIVE exercise, NOT a compensatory strategy to be used during meal times or with a bolus.

Do we need an instrumental to verify that a rehabilitative exercise is doing what it’s supposed to? Yes, we recommend one for the patient to determine the deficits PRIOR to initiating treatment & a follow-up to determine progress after 4-8 weeks of Ampcare’s ESP.

But you don’t need one with Ampcare on to know that it’s working. You’ll see the muscle contraction with your own eyes & palpate it with your own hands.

Our DMs are open if you’re ready to move more hyoids anteriorly and superiorly and pair it with a SPECIFIC dysphagia exercise protocol.

🤔 Does MORE electrical stimulation = BETTER swallow function? Keep reading...

The correct answer is...

🙅 NO, it's more complicated than that!

First, when we say "more" or "stronger" electrical stimulation, we're talking about intensity.

Think of intensity like a dial:

Lower intensity = SENSORY LEVEL
⚡ You feel it.

Higher intensity = MOTOR LEVEL
⚡💪 You get muscle contraction.

Careful consideration of patient tolerance of the intensity is needed to achieve maximum contraction while still being able to complete the swallowing exercise.

Plus, patient tolerance is important to consider! If you crank up the intensity too much, it could become uncomfortable, and the patient won't want to continue.

NMES studies use widely varying intensities, from sensory threshold to motor-level and maximum tolerated stimulation
(Alamer et al., 2020; Miller et al., 2022)

With Ampcare ESP, stimulation is increased to achieve the desired motor contraction while maintaining patient comfort.

Stimulation is delivered for 5 seconds ON, followed by a recovery period.

Because effective stimulation DOES NOT EQUAL maximum stimulation!

🥤 No, Ampcare doesn't bring boys to the yard....but it DOES bring more milkshakes to patients...

These are actual quotes from SLPs who completed the Ampcare course!

And this kind of feedback just makes our hearts soar.

SLPs have one of the most important jobs out there, so we take our work seriously.

If you're curious to see what all the hype is about - and whether or not Ampcare's Effective Swallowing Protocol training could be among the best you've ever taken...

🐟Thanks to the Ampcare-certified SLTs at Cheserfield Hospital in the UK, Patrick was able to return to Fish and Chip Fridays!

As an SLT or SLP, odds are you'll work with MANY self-proclaimed foodies.

Which is pretty much what Ampcare specializes in... bringing foodies back to their food!
