THE LIVER SUMMIT 2026: AN INCREDIBLE INAUGURAL YEAR!

228 in-person registrants. 137 livestream connections. 14 countries reached.

The inaugural The Liver Summit, held September 26, 2026, in Dallas-Fort Worth brought together an extraordinary community dedicated to advancing liver and metabolic health.

With 228 in-person registrations, including 18 distinguished speakers and moderators, and 137 livestream connections spanning Brazil, Canada, Ecuador, Chile, Peru, Argentina, Ireland, UK, Spain, Italy, India, Bahrain, Japan, and China, our inaugural Summit achieved a truly international reach.

Our diverse audience included physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, dietitians, researchers, industry representatives, patients, and patient advocates. We were especially proud to welcome local high school students through The Liver Summit Student Scholar Program, inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals.

From outstanding scientific discussions and a packed Madrigal-sponsored product theater to exceptional sponsor engagement and networking throughout the day, the enthusiasm and energy were remarkable.

To our speakers, attendees, sponsors, volunteers, and everyone who made this inaugural event possible: thank you!

The Liver Summit 2027 returns September 25, 2027! We look forward to building on this momentum and welcoming everyone back for an even bigger second year!

Some of the best conversations happened between sessions.

New introductions, familiar faces, and ideas exchanged across specialties. Attendees repeatedly highlighted the welcoming atmosphere, approachable faculty, and opportunities for open conversation, exactly what we hoped TLS would create.

Our Sponsor Passport encouraged attendees to explore the exhibits and connect with the teams supporting the day.

The conversations continued into the evening, with live music and a relaxed post-conference reception.

Thank you to everyone who brought such warmth and energy to TLS 2026. These moments capture why meeting in person matters.

Meet The Liver Summit 2026 Student Scholars!

Our inaugural Student Scholar Program welcomed several local high school students for a day of learning alongside leaders in hepatology and a firsthand introduction to medicine and science.

As AI transforms healthcare, personal mentorship and human connection remain essential to inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals. That starts with inviting them into the room.

A pleasure to welcome these students, and to see one take the stage to collect a prize!

Last but by no means least at TLS 2026: Dr. Thomas Kerr of UT Southwestern Medical Center closed our program with an update on hepatitis B, including the exciting prospect of a functional cure. He highlighted phase 3 results for investigational bepirovirsen, a glimpse of how treatment could change for some patients living with chronic HBV.

Before his talk, we had the pleasure of recognizing Dr. Kerr’s recent promotion to professor. Making the presentation especially meaningful, the award (from Texas Liver Care) was handed to him by one of his liver transplant recipients.

Congratulations, Dr. Kerr, and thank you for everything you bring to your patients and to hepatology.

How do we identify risk earlier in cirrhosis, and act before the first decompensation?

At TLS 2026, Dr. Ranjeeta Bahirwani of Baylor Scott & White Health delivered a practical update on the “rule of five,” using liver stiffness and platelet count to risk stratify. In addition to practical insights on preventing decompensation, including early use of carvedilol when clinically significant portal hypertension is identified and the complexities of bleeding and clotting risk in cirrhosis.

A thoughtful talk with a clear goal: keep patients compensated for as long as possible. Thank you, Dr. Bahirwani!

How can AI make liver care more responsive to patients and more manageable for clinicians?

At TLS 2026, Jeremy Louissaint, MD, of UT Southwestern Medical Center explored practical uses of AI across clinical workflows, patient communication, imaging, and remote monitoring.

He also looked ahead to tools that could help monitor complications of liver disease and support earlier intervention. An excellent discussion of where AI may make a meaningful difference in hepatology.

Thank you, Dr. Louissaint, for bringing this perspective to TLS 2026.

Dr. Craig Rosenstengle of Baylor Scott & White Health brought a practical update on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and cholangiocarcinoma to TLS 2026.

From the limitations of current HCC surveillance to evolving combination therapies, his talk kept the focus on matching treatment to the patient and stage of disease. He also explored when liver transplantation may be considered for carefully selected patients with small intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma.

Thank you, Dr. Rosenstengle, for an excellent presentation and for bringing these complex decisions into focus.
