Ever wonder why things glow under a black light? Itβs all thanks to fluorescence! Black lights give off ultraviolet (UV) light, which is invisible to us. But when certain materials (like some fabrics, highlighters, or even tonic water) absorb this UV light, they get βexcitedβ and release it as visible, glowing colors.
Traditional black lights have a special phosphor coating that filters out most visible light and only lets the UV through. Some even use a coating called Woodβs glass to give it that faint purple glow. So next time youβre at a glow party or checking out some cool fluorescent art, youβll know whatβs making it shine! π
