October is the perfect time to start learning about these options, since National Donor Advised Fund (DAF) Day was earlier this month. ๐Ÿ“ Read Chief Development and Marketing Officer Jenn Hobbs' blog where she explores three diverse ways to give to Penn-Mar: https://www.penn-mar.org/more-ways-to-give-more-ways-to-make-a-difference/

Penn-Mar Central Day Program participants had a "Camp Palooza!" โ›บ Everyone selected a camp name and decorated their rooms in a "campsite" that was set up in the gym. ๐Ÿ•๏ธ Campers learned about camping gear and fire safety, created an original campfire story, sang songs, and made smores. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Thanks to Program Manager Jen Hisey for these photos of the camping festivities!

For people supported by Penn-Mar, "aging in place" can mean everything from remaining in the same house as they age, keeping routines consistent, and having people they know and trust supporting them even as needs change.

Penn-Mar's Housing Transition Project is helping people age in place by redesigning single-story homes that are built for people to age in place.

*The last 3 sessions have been cancelled as of 10/21.
If you've been affected by Medicaid disenrollment or want to support those who have been, Maryland Association of Community Services (MACS) is holding a series of listening sessions to share your experience.

If you haven't been affected, but want to learn more about what people with IDD, families, and providers are navigating, you can read about it here: https://marylandmatters.org/2026/09/01/providers-stuck-holding-the-bag-for-unpaid-disability-care-amid-agency-delays/?fbclid=IwY2xjawU_XpZleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBwZG9mAXNydGMGYXBwX2lkEDIyMjAzOTE3ODgyMDA4OTIAAR4xY9mqOVKFRJy_UEY0tfeLIHrjGiiN-xFcxqAcROAZ61uAYUbcPldpw5NbBg_aem_AOBo_MwjXWXl91DcsHhV3g

For more than two years, Marylanders with intellectual and developmental disabilities have faced Medicaid coverage losses and denials of dedicated support hours needed for health and safety. Families are stretched beyond their capacity, while community providers sustain services without payment, sometimes for more than a year without resolution or necessary action from the Maryland Department of Health. These disruptions cannot continue.

Needed support is not optional. People need individualized services to live safely in their communities, and providers cannot sustain care without payment. In a recent Maryland Association of Community Services (MACS) survey of 67 providers, 63 reported $29.5 million owed by the state for services delivered to people disenrolled from Medicaid and the waiver. Many waited months or more than a year for benefits to be restored, despite disputing their disenrollment or promptly correcting identified issues.

These sessions will raise public awareness and must remain civil and nonpartisan. Divisive or inflammatory language will not be permitted. Legislators and other government and policy leaders are invited to listen and better understand these experiences, but legislators will not have an opportunity to address attendees.

We need action now. We are holding regional listening sessions for people to share how Medicaid disenrollment, nonpayment, and losses of dedicated hours have affected their lives. Please review the flyer and register through the links in the comments if you would like to share your story.
