The background of Senior Care started with $13.00 in 2012. I ordered business cards for free and made flyers. I called it We Can Help, Home Services. I passed them out to Doctor Offices and Neighborhoods. The next thing I remember we had 4 clients! Hello my name is Cheryl Heinle, I am a mother of 3, a daughter, a wife, a sister and a friend. I just remarried after many years (13) of being divorced

Tape this to your loved ones fridge to help them fight against scams! My mom and grandma got an email saying they were charged $400 for a virus protection. When called to say they don’t have that virus protection the fake company asked for their information. Also while making this flyer I saw “fraud reporting” websites that also asked for personal information.

Using a GPS tracking device is a life saver if your aging parent gets lost or has Alzheimer’s/Dementia. You can track their whereabouts, find them in an emergency, and even monitor their health via your smartphone! The tracker can be a necklace, watch, bracelet, pendant, or placed into a purse/shoe/on clothing or ankle, and on their phone. Not all of it is hands off: check the charge and batteries and still do check-ins. Most have monthly fees; the devices that don’t are limited in their abilities. Above is a list of the best GPS Trackers for Seniors.

An element that came out of Covid-19 was a smoother more accessible telehealth system. Telehealth is a video/telephone call that you can make with your doctor or counselor. It’s more convenient and safe for those in rural areas, susceptible to Covid, or immobile, and lends the option for family members to stay updated. Many have reported that telehealth visits are the same or better than in-person. SCHS can help set up/teach you about the site or app along with other tasks with daily living! Call us Today for Peace of Mind Tomorrow! Jenifer (559)499-3568.
Below are steps to take for your first telehealth doctor visit!
1. Be tech-ready with a smart phone, tablet or PC.
2. Check with your insurance
3. Make an appointment
4. Describe symptoms: some apps might ask
5. Set up good security: choose a password not easily guessed
6. Be patient: might have a wait time, read a book or watch a show!
7. See and talk to the doctor
8. Facetime/add pictures to the exam
9. Still might have to come in-person for test/lab work
10. Prescriptions can be filled and follow up might be necessary

Our caregivers provide many services such as meal preparation, transportation, companionship, light housekeeping, and medication reminders. Our senior home care services are tailored to your care needs.

Scams and Financial Abuse against Seniors

We need to protect our loved ones from becoming victims of scams and financial abuse. Scams can come in the form of phone calls, emails, in-person or on media. Always talk about finances with respect and understanding. Often, scams seem like they are coming from a friend or a family member.
Early Steps Include: Give them small amounts of cash, minimizing spending limit/cancel cards (if necessary), teach them about finances with you.
Signs of Money Problems Could Be: Trouble counting change or paying for things, balancing checkbooks, understanding bank statements, unpaid/unopened bills, being afraid/worried about money, lots of new/strange purchases.
Types of Financial Abuse/Scams: Identify theft, Get-Rich-Quick offers, fake offers for prizes/home/auto repairs, insurance scams, health scams (unproven memory aids), fake friend/family members asking for money and threats.
Signs of Financial Abuse/Scams: Fake signatures, unusual changes in their Will, house sold without permission, signed & unexplained legal forms, and items missing from the house (jewelry).
At SCHS our caregivers help sort through mail (weeding out scams), talk to our clients about strange phone calls or emails that don’t make sense, and help out with daily living. Call us today to see how we can help you or your loved one stay safe and taken care of! Jenifer (559)499-3568

Urinary Incontinence: Paying the Water Bill

If you have the Charmin commercial running through your head, so do I. Singing and dancing bears that won’t stop talking about “going”. Although, not all of us “Enjoy the Go”. For many over the age of 65 (more women than men) have trouble with paying the water bill. So, what is urinary incontinence? UI is the inability to control the passage of urine. It brings physical, psychosocial and financial burdens. The management of incontinence takes many hours of nursing care. If the bladder can’t be emptied, urine backs up into the kidneys and may cause kidney damage (Hydronephrosis). There is hope though, UI can be improved or cured no matter the age.
There are diagnostic test and procedures that include: laboratory test, measurement of urine volumes, radiographic studies, endoscopy, stress tests and urodynamic studies that can show what’s going on. The first test will be a Clean-catch urinalysis: which is passing in a cup. Simple enough but can make a massive quality of life change. Our caregivers at SCHS help monitor and manage incontinence. We can even help with the trip to the doctor’s office and take notes for our clients. Call us today to see how we can help improve your loved ones daily living today! Jenifer (559)499-3568.

7 Heat Protection Tips for Seniors
Summer is here and it’s HOT! Below are some tips on how to stay safe and cool in the summer: stay in AC buildings, dress appropriately, check in on each other, stay in the shade, hydrate, relax, and wear sunscreen! Our caregivers are always there for you or your loved one. We can check on you, see if your air conditioner is working and help out with things like: housekeeping, personal grooming, meal prep, medication management, grocery shopping, doctor visits, pet care and companionship. Call us today for peace of mind tomorrow! Jenifer (559)499-3568.
1. Stay in AC buildings: relax at home, the mall/ movie theater/senior centers (with Covid protection/social distancing).
2. Dress to impress! Wear loose fitting/light colored clothing. Wear hats when outside. If you get cold inside don’t bundle up; instead wear loosely woven or well ventilated clothing.
3. Check in: Stay in contact with family, friends and neighbors. Let them know where you are, just in case!
4. Stay in the shade: Relax in shaded areas with ceiling fans or box fans nearby. Close blind on the east in the morning and on the west in the afternoon.
5. Hydrate: Drink lots of cold water. Try out new infused water recipes, eat popsicles or watermelon. Stay away from soda and alcoholic drinks because they dehydrate.
6. Take it easy: don’t over extend yourself outside. Have someone help with mowing or gardening.
7. Minimize sun exposure: As we get older we are at higher risk of skin disease and sunburn. Wear sunscreen with a high number of SPF.

Today is the international day of yoga! Yoga has many benefits that not only help young adults but seniors as well. When you get older a lot can change. Chances for diabetes and cardiovascular disease increase. Depression and anxiety can rise. Not to mention the body aches! Yoga can help decrease these and a lot more. My favorite pose is the pigeon pose which helps with my sciatic nerve pain. Also, the sphinx or cat/cow poses relieve pain in my lower back. Although, know your limits and don’t hurt yourself! Take it easy with a gentle class for beginners. You could join a yoga class at your local senior center or watch one on YouTube (Yoga with Adriene: Chair yoga-Yoga for Seniors).
At SCHS we care about the health of our clients. We love them like our own mothers and fathers. Their physical and mental health is what we focus on from the beginning. Call for a quick consultation with our office manager, Jenifer Haro, today! (559)499-3568.
Here are some of the benefits yoga can have on your life!
-More energetic
-Help manage aches & pain
-Improve flexibility & balance
-Enhance strength & mobility
-Strengthen bones
-Reduce stress & lessen depression
-Improve sleep
-Minimize hypertension

Alzheimer’s disease: what is it? How can I tell if my loved one has it? What can I do to help? Well Alzheimer’s disease prevents the brains’ nerve cells from working like they should. The cells eventually pass on causing permanent brain damage. It’s a form of Dementia, typically appears at age 65 or older, and affects memory, thinking, behavior and daily tasks.

Early signs consist of: difficulty solving problems, memory loss, struggling with normal tasks, issues with time/place, struggling with images & spatial awareness (like pouring water into a cup), recent issues with speaking/writing, losing items, can’t retrace their steps, changes in judgment, social/work changes, mood/behavior/personality changes. The Sage test can be the first step in identifying if you or your loved one has Alzheimer’s (https://wexnermedical.osu.edu/brain-spine-neuro/memory-disorders/sage#SAGETest). All is not lost; catching it early helps tremendously. See the doctor as soon as possible and look into aducanumab (Aduhelm™) it may help delay the decline.

At Senior Care In-Home Services our caregiver’s are trained on how to help those with Alzheimer’s disease. We understand how scary and difficult it can be for everyone. Setting up systems, maintaining safety in the home and patience are just a few ways we help. You don’t have to do this alone! Call us today for peace of mind tomorrow! (559)499-3568.
