The Conscious Gut Certified Functional Nutritionist with 20+ years in gut health. Specializing in bloating, IBS, SIBO and Hashimoto’s. Understanding what drives symptoms.

The Conscious Gut is a space where biology meets compassion—where gut health, mental clarity, and emotional resilience are understood as deeply connected. Founded by functional nutritionist Sara Ganeian, our work centers on helping individuals move beyond symptom-chasing and into root-cause healing. With a blend of research-driven insight and lived experience, Sara guides clients through challenges like anxiety, burnout, brain fog, ADHD, and chronic gut imbalances—always with care, never with overwhelm. Here, we don’t just talk about food—we talk about what it means to feel safe, nourished, and supported in your body. Because healing isn’t just a protocol. It’s a process of remembering what your body already knows.

After more than 20 years working in digestive health, here’s something I see all the time: people with IBS who have been given a label, a list of foods to avoid, and very little else.

Many of them have already tried a lot. They’ve cut out foods, taken probiotics, done the protocol a friend recommended, and maybe even treated SIBO, and they’re still not feeling better.

That’s usually not a sign they did something wrong. IBS is more complex than one food, one test, or one supplement. The gut, the nervous system and the microbiome are constantly influencing each other, so what helps one person can do very little for someone else.

That’s why I don’t start with a protocol. I start with you: your symptoms, your history, what you’ve already tried, and what hasn’t worked.

If you’re tired of guessing, you don’t have to figure it out on your own🤍

Are fermented foods good for you, or should you avoid them?

You may have seen a clip linking fermented foods to higher rates of stomach cancer in countries like Japan and Korea. But an association does not prove that fermented foods caused those higher rates.

Some research has linked certain traditional foods preserved with a lot of salt, including some pickled and fermented vegetables, to stomach cancer risk. But that doesn’t mean fermentation itself causes cancer.

Japan and Korea also have higher rates of H. pylori infection, a well-established stomach cancer risk factor. Stomach cancer risk is influenced by many factors, so we can’t point to fermented foods as the cause.

There’s a lot of nuance here. Join my webinar for the latest on gut health and common gut concerns. Comment GUT and I’ll send you the registration details🤍

Having SIBO doesn’t mean vegetables are off the table. These autumn vegetables may work for some people, especially when they’re cooked until tender.

Start low and slow, and pay attention to how your body responds. Everyone’s tolerance is different.

Save this for your next grocery trip🤍

Things France reminded me about digestion:
Meals are slow. Nobody eats standing up.
You walk everywhere.
Pleasure is part of the meal, not something to feel guilty about.
Your gut is listening to how you eat, not just what you eat🤍
