A lot of people are stopping their sets because theyâve decided on 10 reps, not because the muscle is actually done.
If you hit rep 10 and couldâve done 15, that wasnât a hard set just because the last couple burned.
Your body doesnât know what number you wrote in your program. The goal is to make those reps challenging enough that youâre actually getting close to failure â while still controlling the weight and keeping your form together.
And no, that doesnât mean taking every set to absolute failure. But you should know what failure feels like if youâre going to accurately judge what â2 reps leftâ feels like.
Sometimes you donât need a new exercise, a new split, or some fancy technique.
You need to stop treating the rep number like a finish line.
