Hazel Leaf Healing Serving Gainesville, Florida and online coaching clients. Hi! I am no stranger to anxiety and depression. My body felt so uncomfortable to live in.

Hazel Leaf Healing helps people find relief from anxiety, insomnia, overwhelm, stress, and emotional suffering through massage therapy, energy work, coaching, hypnosis, and nervous system healing. I’m Craig Antley, licensed massage therapist and founder of Orange Blossom Massage and Energy Work, located in Gainesville, Florida. This city became my home after moving here in early 2020 and falling in love with the culture, nature and beauty. By the time I was 18, I had had 3 major depressions and compounding anxiety that sent me spiraling down a dark and winding path. I couldn’t sleep, my thoughts scattered like a million trains going in every direction and nothing seemed right nor ok. I didn’t feel like myself. I started to feel true loneliness and alienation from what was happening to me; at times wondered if I would make it. Both these afflictions sent me on a path to find my own healing journey. After learning how to do inner work with the help of mental health specialists and through my own path, I came to the outer work of massage, having work done from the outside in. Massage truly helped me. I felt I could finally relax, take a breath and see with a calm heart and open eyes. My stress levels went down and I started feeling like myself, not just trying to survive the onslaught of a never ending hurricane. I know massage can help many others too. This is what I have to give and offer back to our community. It’s my purpose and passion to help people feel more at home in their bodies, to free up trapped energy, and to provide relief from the physical symptoms of anxiety and depression. I know the heaviness of depression and how debilitating it can be in relationships, careers, and in daily life. I know how an anxiety attack can become traumatizing causing more anxiety around it happening again, growing into a chronic anxious web. Whether you want to ease stress, more restful sleep, feel more comfortable in your own skin, experience freer flowing energy, or to just be able to finally take a breath, I am here to help. Outside of practicing massage, my favorite things are spending time with loved ones, playing guitar, writing and producing music, hiking, running, and exercising my mind by reading and learning almost anything. I look forward to hearing from you and connecting with you soon!

Being constantly β€œon” can be rewarded.

You stay ahead.
You prevent problems.
You get things done.
People know they can depend on you.

Eventually, you may start believing:
β€œThis is what keeps everything together.”

Then slowing down doesn't just feel unfamiliar.
It can feel risky.

What if you miss something?
Fall behind?
Disappoint someone?

That's one reason β€œjust relax” isn't always very helpful.

Sometimes the deeper work is learning that you can still be capable, responsible, and ambitious without being mentally available every waking moment.

You finally get an afternoon with nothing scheduled.

And within twenty minutes...
you're cleaning.
Answering email.
Running an errand.
Getting ahead on tomorrow.
Finding something productive to do.

Sometimes being constantly β€œon” isn't about having too much to do.
It's about what happens inside you when there's nothing to do.

Does stillness feel uncomfortable?
Does rest make you feel guilty?
Do you immediately start looking for something useful to accomplish?

Your system may have become very good at turning on.
That doesn't necessarily mean it's equally good at turning off.

Do you ever feel like you're never completely off duty?

The workday ends.
You sit down.

Nothing urgently needs your attention.
But some part of you is still monitoring.

Thinking about tomorrow.
Checking your phone.
Remembering things you should do.
Looking for the next thing that needs handling.

You can technically be resting without actually feeling at rest.

When you've spent a long time being responsible, productive, prepared, and available, staying β€œon” can become so familiar that you barely notice it.

This week's article explores why that happens and why learning to switch off can be just as important as learning to handle more.

When you're overwhelmed, your mind may try to solve everything at once.

What's happening today.
What needs to happen tomorrow.
What someone might think.
What could go wrong next week.
What you forgot yesterday.

No wonder your mind feels crowded.

Try asking:
"What actually needs my attention right now?"

Then ask something we don't ask nearly as often:
"What doesn't?"

Some things can wait.
Some things belong to someone else.
Some things aren't problems yet.
And some things may not need to be carried at all.

Mental space isn't always created by becoming more productive.
Sometimes it's created by putting something down.

"What do you want for dinner?"

And suddenly...
that's one question too many.

"I don't care. Please just decide."

It's probably not really about dinner.

After a day of making decisions, solving problems, switching between tasks, responding to people, and remembering everything that needs to happen, even one more simple choice can feel exhausting.

Mental overload can make ordinary things feel much harder than they normally would.

That doesn't necessarily mean you've become lazy, indecisive, or incapable.
Your available capacity matters.

Ever feel like your brain has too many tabs open?

You need to answer that email.
Schedule the appointment.
Remember the bill.
Finish something for work.
Figure out dinner.
Respond to the text.
And don't forget that other thing you're trying not to forget.

None of these things may be enormous on their own.
But together, your mind can start feeling full.

You become forgetful.
Distracted.
Irritable.
Indecisive.

Even small tasks start feeling strangely difficult.

Sometimes you don't need to become better at handling everything.
You need fewer tabs open.

This week's article explores the signs of mental overload and what may help create more room.

Not every stress response means you need to become better at calming yourself.

Sometimes you're overwhelmed because...
you actually have too much on your plate.

No breathing technique changes an impossible schedule.
No productivity system creates unlimited capacity.

And nervous system regulation shouldn't become another way of telling yourself:
"I should be able to handle more."

Sometimes support means working with what's happening inside you.

Sometimes it means changing what's happening around you.

Fewer responsibilities.
Clearer boundaries.
More help.
More rest.
Different priorities.

Knowing the difference matters.

Imagine you're carrying grocery bags into your house.

One more item isn't particularly heavy.
But both hands are already full.

Where are you supposed to put it?

Overwhelm can work the same way.
Sometimes the newest responsibility isn't actually that big.

But you're already carrying:

Work.
Family.
Money.
Decisions.
Poor sleep.
Unfinished tasks.
Emotional stress.

And then someone hands you one more thing.

The problem isn't always the weight of that final thing.
Sometimes there's simply nowhere left to put it.

Anxiety and overwhelm can feel almost identical.

Racing thoughts.
Tight shoulders.
Difficulty concentrating.
Irritability.
Trouble sleeping.

But there's a useful distinction.

Overwhelm often sounds like:
"How am I going to handle all of this?"

Anxiety often sounds like:
"What if something goes wrong?"

And sometimes one creates the other.

You become anxious about everything you need to accomplish...
which makes everything feel overwhelming.

Or you become overwhelmed by everything you're carrying...
and start worrying about what will happen if you can't keep up.

Understanding which pattern is happening can help you figure out what you actually need.

When you're overwhelmed, your first question may be:

"How can I get more done?"

Try another question:

"What's taking up my capacity right now?"

Maybe it's the workload.

Maybe you haven't slept well.

Maybe you're anticipating a difficult conversation.

Maybe you're carrying responsibilities that aren't yours.

Maybe your mind hasn't stopped solving problems in weeks.

Another productivity system isn't always the answer.

Sometimes you don't need to become better at carrying more.

You need more room to carry what already matters.
