Reflection of the Day
While I was starting my first patient of the day at 9:00am through a telehealth appointment, I heard a very loud, unusual, persistent knocking on my window.
The blinds are always closed, so I barely look outside. Iโm focused on my day, trying to be effective, focused on my tasks and my patients. I rarely stop.
Today was different. There was an unusual interruption, definitely loud enough to make me look through the window. And there it was: a beautiful woodpecker knocking โat the door.โ
You see, I have a fascination with birds. Iโm not knowledgeable about them, and I donโt even have any as pets, but I truly enjoy watching their freedom. My daughterโs name was inspired by them: Libertad, which means freedom in Spanish.
How do birds, so small and fragile, exposed to nature, survive on that freedom? A freedom they canโt understand, but that frees them from everything that attaches us as humans to this earth. Time doesnโt exist for them, only for us. They โtrustโ; they just exist. No worries.
And then, God. You understand what I mean.
Today was a special day. It has been a very difficult week, and we are all exhausted at the office. But the bird forced me to stop, look out the window, and realize He is there. He was telling me, โItโs all okay. Just enjoy the view. Iโve got you. Trust, I am always here, my daughter.โ
Yes, today my medical office became a different experience for me. It was more than medical; it was His presence, noticed when sometimes I overlook it.
I do hope every patient of mine feels that every single time.
