✈️ Newark Liberty International Airport is leading the way in making air travel more autism-friendly! 💙

Airports can be overwhelming, with bright lights, loud noises, and unpredictable routines. But in 2023 Newark took a huge step forward by opening a sensory room in Terminal A, designed to provide a calming space for autistic and neurodivergent travelers before heading through security.

Created in collaboration with the Anderson Center for Autism, this 1,000-square-foot space features:

🌊 A riverbank-inspired design with soft textures
🐠 A giant saltwater fish tank for soothing visuals
🔵 Bubble tubes that provide gentle sensory stimulation
💡 Warm Himalayan salt lighting for a calming atmosphere

And it doesn’t stop there! A second sensory room past security is in the works, featuring an airplane simulator where travelers can practice sitting in a plane cabin before boarding. Newark is also partnering with TSA Cares to offer a smoother, less stressful security screening process.

This initiative is setting a new standard for accessibility in airports, ensuring autistic travelers and their families can navigate air travel with greater ease and comfort. We hope to see more airports follow suit! 👏
