What is a total protein and albumin/globulin (A/G) ratio test?
A total protein and albumin/globulin (A/G) ratio test measures the total amount of protein in your blood. Proteins have many important functions, including giving your body energy, rebuilding muscles, and helping your immune system. Your body might make too much or too little protein if you have certain health conditions.

There are two major types of protein in the blood: albumin and globulin. Albumin makes up most of the protein in the blood, while the rest are called globulins.

Albumin, which helps keep fluid from leaking out of blood vessels. It also helps move hormones (chemical messengers in your bloodstream that control the actions of certain cells or organs), medicines, vitamins, and other important substances throughout your body. Albumin is made in the liver.
Globulins, which help fight infection and move nutrients throughout your body. Some globulins are made by the liver. Others are made by the immune system.

The test also compares the amount of albumin in your blood to the amount of globulin. This comparison is called the albumin/globulin (A/G) ratio.

This test can check how well your liver and kidneys are working and if you are lacking some nutrients needed for good health. If your total protein levels or A/G ratio results are not normal, it can be a sign of a serious health problem.

Other names: total serum protein, TP albumin/globulin ratio, Total protein with A/G ratio

What do the results mean?
Your results will show whether you have normal, low, or high total protein levels. They will also show if you have a normal, low, or high albumin to globulin (A/G) ratio.

If your total protein levels were low, it may be a sign of one of the following conditions:

Liver disease
Kidney disease
Malnutrition, a condition in which your body does not get the calories, vitamins, and/or minerals needed for good health
A malabsorption syndrome, a type of disorder in which your small intestine can't absorb enough nutrients from food. Types of malabsorption syndromes include celiac disease and Crohn's disease.
If your total protein levels were high, it may be a sign of one of the following conditions:

An infection such as HIV or viral hepatitis
Multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer
If your A/G ratio was low, it may be caused by:

An autoimmune disease, such as lupus
Liver disease, including cirrhosis
Kidney disease
If your A/G ratio was high, it may be caused by:
Certain types of genetic disorders
Leukemia (cancer of the blood cells)

Real Cinnamon vs. “Cinnamon Flavor”
Here’s the thing about most of the cinnamon we encounter during fall — a lot of it isn’t actually cinnamon. That pumpkin spice latte? Artificial cinnamon flavoring. The cinnamon-scented candle? Synthetic fragrance. The flavored oatmeal packet? “Natural and artificial flavors.” The taste might remind you of cinnamon, but your body isn’t getting any of the actual benefits because the real thing was never there.

Real cinnamon — the bark of the Cinnamomum tree, ground into a spice or pressed into an essential oil — contains active compounds that have been studied extensively for their effects on the body. Artificial cinnamon flavoring is designed to mimic the taste. That’s it. It’s a chemistry project, not a health tool. If you want the flavor and the benefits, you need the real stuff. And the good news is, real cinnamon is inexpensive, easy to find, and incredibly versatile.

What Makes Real Cinnamon So Powerful
The star compound in cinnamon is cinnamaldehyde — it’s what gives cinnamon its warm, spicy flavor and its characteristic smell. But cinnamaldehyde is also responsible for most of cinnamon’s researched health benefits. Here’s what the science says:

Blood sugar support. This is the most well-documented benefit. Cinnamaldehyde improves insulin sensitivity at the cellular level, helping your body move glucose out of the bloodstream and into cells more efficiently. Clinical trials have shown that daily cinnamon intake can meaningfully reduce fasting blood sugar levels. In a season full of pumpkin pie and apple crisp, that’s not a bad thing to have working in your favor.

Anti-inflammatory effects. Cinnamon’s active compounds help reduce inflammatory markers in the body. Chronic low-grade inflammation is at the root of most modern disease, so anything that naturally helps keep it in check is worth paying attention to.

Antimicrobial activity. Cinnamaldehyde and eugenol — another compound found in cinnamon — have demonstrated effectiveness against a broad range of pathogens, including E. coli, Candida, Staph, and even certain respiratory viruses. As cold and flu season ramps up alongside fall, cinnamon becomes more than a flavor — it’s a layer of support.

Antioxidant power. Cinnamon ranks among the highest antioxidant spices tested. Its antioxidant capacity significantly exceeds that of blueberries per gram. Antioxidants help neutralize the free radicals that contribute to cellular aging and oxidative damage.

Gut health. Research has shown that cinnamon has prebiotic properties, promoting the growth of beneficial gut bacteria and increasing the production of short-chain fatty acids — the same compounds that strengthen the gut lining and reduce intestinal inflammation.

Easy Ways to Use More of the Real Thing
The beauty of cinnamon is how easy it is to work into your life — especially when the season is already inviting you to:

Sprinkle it on everything. Oatmeal, yogurt, smoothies, coffee, toast with almond butter, baked sweet potatoes. Get yourself a jar of quality ground cinnamon and keep it on the counter where you’ll actually use it.

Cook with it. Cinnamon isn’t just for dessert. Add it to soups, stews, chili, roasted vegetables, and anything with apples or squash. It brings a warmth to savory dishes that feels like fall on a plate.

Drink it. A cinnamon stick in your tea or hot water with honey and cinnamon is one of the simplest, most comforting drinks you can make. It warms you from the inside and gives your body something real to work with.

Make your own “pumpkin spice.” Instead of buying the pre-made blend (which often contains artificial flavoring), mix real cinnamon with a little nutmeg, ginger, allspice, and clove. Add it to coffee, baked goods, or even a warm glass of milk. You control the ingredients, and your body gets the benefit.

Cinnamon has been used medicinally for thousands of years across cultures. It’s not a trend. It’s one of nature’s most reliable gifts — and we get a whole season that practically begs us to use it. So lean in. But lean into the real stuff — not the artificial version that just borrows the name. Your taste buds will love it either way. But only one of them is actually doing something for your body.

What is the most important investment you can make when building a business?

It’s not always another course, another tool, or another marketing strategy.

Sometimes, it starts with you.

Building a business requires you to show up consistently. It requires energy, focus, commitment, and the ability to take advantage of opportunities when they come your way.

That’s one reason I’m passionate about helping people create simple wellness routines that include vitamins, minerals, and greens as part of their overall approach to taking care of themselves.

Because your goals don’t stop just because life gets busy.

Whether you’re growing a business, working toward a new career, going to school, or building a better future for your family, taking care of yourself matters.

I want to help people build businesses and lives where they have the opportunity to work toward their goals while still being present for the moments that matter.

Your business is important.

But so are you.

If you’d like to learn more about how I incorporate wellness into my business and help others do the same, let’s connect.
