The word “atypical” can make an eating disorder sound less serious, but atypical anorexia can be just as distressing and medically dangerous as anorexia nervosa.

Both conditions can involve restrictive eating, intense concerns about weight or body image, and serious health complications. A person’s appearance alone does not determine the severity of an eating disorder or whether they need support.

At Aster Springs, we recognize the importance of looking beyond appearances and understanding each person’s unique experience. A thorough clinical assessment can help guide an individualized treatment plan.

Read our latest blog to learn more about atypical anorexia, how it differs from anorexia nervosa, and why proper assessment matters.

Depression and eating disorders can affect more than what others see on the surface. Both can impact emotional well-being, daily routines, relationships, and how someone feels about themselves. The signs aren’t always obvious, and everyone’s experience is different.

This Depression Awareness Month, we’re raising awareness of the connection between mental health and eating disorders, encouraging compassionate conversations, and reminding individuals that they deserve support without judgment.

Healing looks different for everyone, but no one has to navigate it alone. With the right care and support, recovery is possible.

Our Aster Springs team recently had the opportunity to connect with school counselors across Ohio to discuss eating disorder prevention and intervention in school settings.

Educating the community and building relationships with professionals who support children and adolescents are important steps toward recognizing the signs of eating disorders and helping young people access care earlier.

We’re thankful for the opportunity to share knowledge, learn from others, and collaborate with those who are committed to supporting the well-being of the next generation.

September 11, 2001, is a day we carry with us in our collective memory.

We remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the first responders, service members, and everyday people who showed remarkable courage and compassion in the days that followed.

We honor their memories and the strength of those who continue to carry their stories forward.
