WHAT I SEE IN PRACTICE:
Tight muscles aren't always muscles that simply need to be stretched.
I hear this all the time:
“This muscle is ALWAYS tight. I stretch it constantly, but it keeps coming back.”
And my question is:
WHY does it keep coming back?
Sometimes a muscle stays tight because it's doing extra work to stabilize or protect something else. Maybe another muscle isn't contributing appropriately. Maybe the movement pattern isn't working well. Maybe pain or joint dysfunction is changing how the nervous system is recruiting the muscles.
This is where an Applied Kinesiology visit is different from one of my regular chiropractic visits.
A regular visit has a specific amount of time for us to address the problems we've already identified and provide treatment.
An Applied Kinesiology visit gives us dedicated time to investigate the WHY.
I can evaluate individual muscles and movement patterns and use muscle testing as one part of a broader clinical examination to help identify areas that may not be functioning or coordinating the way we expect.
Instead of simply saying:
“Your muscle is tight. Let's loosen it.”
I want to start asking:
Why is it tight?
What is it compensating for?
What isn't doing its job?
Why does the problem keep returning?
Applied Kinesiology isn't a magic test that diagnoses everything from a muscle response. It's another clinical tool I use alongside your history, examination, orthopedic/neurological findings when appropriate, and what I observe about how your body functions.
If you've been dealing with a problem that keeps coming back and you've been wondering WHY, that's exactly the kind of question an Applied Kinesiology visit gives us more time to explore.
