As Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, UNC Health Wayne is proud to recognize the strength, courage, and resilience of the breast cancer survivors within our very own team.

Today, we are highlighting just a few of our incredible teammates who have faced breast cancer and continue to inspire those around them. While not all of our survivors are pictured, we celebrate each and every one of you and the journeys that have brought you here.

After reaching an exciting milestone with our Ion robot-assisted bronchoscopy system, we're taking a closer look at the technology and the team making it possible here at UNC Health Wayne.

Since performing our first procedure in June, our pulmonology team has completed 50 cases, helping patients receive advanced lung care without having to travel outside our community.

Through this technology, our physicians can reach and biopsy hard-to-access lung nodules, supporting earlier detection and more timely answers for patients.

Please join us in congratulating UNC Health Wayne’s Chief of Police, Mr. Glenn Barnes, on an incredible 50 years in law enforcement!

Mr. Barnes began his career in Kenly, NC, and has since served communities through his work in Newton Grove, the Goldsboro Police Department, and UNC Health Lenoir. For the past three years, we have been fortunate to have him leading our Police Department here at UNC Health Wayne.

Throughout his five decades of service, Mr. Barnes has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to protecting and serving others. We are grateful for his leadership, dedication, and the experience he brings to our hospital each day.

UNC Health Wayne is proud to celebrate a major milestone: 50 cases completed using our Ion robot-assisted bronchoscopy system!

Since performing our first case in June, our team has already reached 50 procedures in just a few short months! This advanced technology allows our physicians to reach and biopsy hard-to-access lung nodules, helping patients get answers sooner when early detection matters most.

For our community, these 50 cases represent more than just a number. They represent greater access to advanced lung care that patients previously had to travel for, now available right here in Wayne County, close to home and the people who matter most.

UNC Health Wayne is proud to announce that our Center for Nutrition and Diabetes Health has received the 2026 North Carolina Diabetes Advisory Council Health Care Provider Award!

Through diabetes nurse navigation, diabetes self-management education, medical nutrition therapy, prevention programs, and community outreach, our team provides comprehensive, patient-centered care to those affected by diabetes.

Their impact includes more than 60 community screening events, 1,000 individuals screened, 1,300 educational encounters, and 1,300 volunteer service hours!

Congratulations to our incredible diabetes team on this well-deserved recognition! Your dedication to expanding access to care, educating our community, and improving lives continues to make a lasting difference.

Congratulations to our Meredith Jones, an Ultrasound/Vascular Technologist at UNC Health Wayne, for taking home 3rd place in the Cream Pie category at the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair with her banana pudding pie, the same recipe that earned her 1st place last year!

This year, she had a little family competition when her mom entered the same category and beat her with a key lime pie! Despite losing to mom, Meredith was thrilled to participate in a tradition she's been part of since she was just 5 years old.

Congratulations, Meredith! We love seeing the talents our teammates bring to the table, both inside and outside the hospital!

Our UNC Health Wayne team had a great time at the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair, sharing diabetes education and some delicious, diabetes-friendly treats prepared by our very own Head Chef Josh! On the menu were apples with reduced-sugar caramel and a ground turkey taco dip, showing that making healthier food choices doesn't mean sacrificing flavor.

We loved seeing everyone enjoy the tasty treats while learning more about diabetes and the importance of healthy eating. Thank you to everyone who stopped by!

UNC Health Wayne is always proud to sponsor Senior Day at the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair and spend time connecting with members of our community!

Our teammates provided education and resources on orthopedics, cancer, diabetes, nutrition, stroke and chest pain, while also offering diabetes screenings to attendees.

A special shoutout to our incredible teammates who helped make the day a success. Thank you for representing UNC Health Wayne and continuing to find meaningful ways to support the health of our community!
