As we edge closer to winter (more sickness) we thought it would be helpful for patients to understand our busiest hours of the day so you can make plans. No one wants to spend hours waiting at a medical clinic full of sick people! These are the two most busiest times of the week.

-Mondays….by far the busiest day of the week for ANY medical clinic. I hated working Mondays in the ER for this very reason. If you call wanting a refill or to speak with a provider, it will probably be Tuesday before we can get back with you. We want to call you back, but we are a small office of 3 employees.

-the after school rush hour. We can tell when Star elementary gets out to school and then the rest follow. This is also our most contagious time of the dayšŸ˜‚ it makes sense….more kids, more germs.

We hope this helps!

Quick update to our hours this week. We will be CLOSED until Monday morning.

I am so sorry for the last minute notice, but we will closed today. I was working on another building last night when I accidentally hit my head on a light fixture (pretty hardšŸ«£šŸ˜‚) Thankfully my husband and daughter were there to help me and I decided I didn’t need my head stapled; that it would heal just fine on its own (nurses are the worse patients!)

Thank you for understanding!

New week, new germs. We have seen a rise in impetigo over the last two days in our clinic. Here is some helpful information!

What is impetigo?

Impetigo is a common, contagious bacterial skin infection, most often caused by Staphylococcus or Streptococcus bacteria. It is especially common in children but can occur at any age.

What does it look like?

It often begins as small red bumps or blisters that break open and develop a yellow or honey-colored crust. It commonly occurs around the nose and mouth but can appear anywhere on the body.

How is it spread?

Impetigo spreads through direct contact with the infected skin or by sharing items such as towels, clothing, bedding, toys, or sports equipment.

Treatment:

Small areas may be treated with a prescription antibiotic ointment, such as mupirocin. More widespread infections may require an oral antibiotic. Take or use the medication exactly as prescribed and complete the prescribed course.

Home care:
Gently wash the affected area with soap and water. A warm, wet compress can help soften crusting before applying medication. Keep fingernails short, discourage scratching, wash hands frequently, and cover lesions when possible. Don’t share towels, washcloths, clothing, or bedding.

🦠How long is it contagious?
Impetigo is generally much less contagious after starting effective antibiotics. Patients can typically return to school or work after at least 12 hours of appropriate antibiotic treatment, provided they are otherwise well and exposed sores are covered. Some schools and childcare facilities require 24 hours, so check their policy.

Just a quick update on the respiratory illnesses we have been seeing in our clinic.

🦠Covid is still very much present. Symptoms have included the typical complaints: sore throat, cough, fever, fatigue. This can be tested with an at home test after 24 hours of symptoms beginning.

🦠Rhinovirus is also VERY prevalent. It is the number one cause cause of the common cold. Symptoms usually begin 1–3 days after exposure. This can only be picked up by a send off test. This has been a big player in our school systems. Symptoms include:

* Runny nose or nasal congestion
* Sneezing
* Sore or scratchy throat (this is typically the first thing you notice)
* Cough
* Postnasal drainage
* Headache
* Mild fatigue/malaise
* Watery eyes
* Low-grade fever—more common in children; fever is often absent in adults
* Occasionally mild body aches

Symptoms typically peak around days 2–3 and improve within 7–10 days, although the cough can linger for 2–3 weeks.

Treatment is supportive care however either can cause issues with people sensitive to lung issues.

We are so sorry, but we will be closed today due to staff sickness. We will plan to be open tomorrow at 8:30.

Happy Monday!

This morning, we saw a record number of patients…..in 3 years…….🤯We apologize if anyone tried to call and didn’t get through. It was literally standing room only. Please give us time to return calls over the next 24-48 hours. Mondays are generally the busiest day, but Covid has hit our town HARD.

If you come to the clinic for allergy shots, we recommend you try to come on Tuesdays or Thursdays. This is typically a lower volume day and less sickness to be around : )

Thank you for being the best patients ever!

After a peaceful, glorious, summer break….covid is starting to show itself again.

Typical symptoms seem to start with a sore throat, quickly followed by congestion and a dry cough. Children seem to complain of headaches and nausea as well. Fever does seem prevalent this time around.

If symptoms are greater than 24 hours long, it is normally detected on tests. Testing too early will cause a false negative (meaning you have Covid but the test says you don’t). Please do your best to stay away from anyone who is medically fragile during those 24-48 hours to limit the spread.

Encourage your school aged children to wash their hands frequently, use hand sanitizer, and don’t drink after each other (sports teams….I’m looking at you!šŸ™ƒ)
