Lindgren Functional Medicine Treating the root cause of health conditions helping our patients enjoy good health! My journey to this place was anything but linear.

It took years of working in the conventional medical system before it became clear to me that what I was practicing as a physician wasn't a solution for wellness, it was a practice of fixing numbers with pharmaceuticals. This problem needed this drug. That problem needed that drug. No physician will tell you that they dedicated their entire professional career to become a drug dealer, but that is what I felt I had become. For the vast majority of patients, bandaging the same illness with the same medication doesn't fix the problem. What patients need today - what we as people need today - is a guide to wellness. I will tell you that wellness isn't about having perfect numbers or taking all the right pharmaceuticals. Wellness is a way of life - a way of life that focuses on nutrition, hormone optimization, stress reduction, immune system support, detoxification, and neurotransmitter balance. I am confident in telling you that wellness is absolutely attainable. Together, I would love to guide you along the path that will take you from where you are now, to the place where you can be the best you can possibly be. Fellowship trained in functional medicine and certified by both the American Academy of Anti-Aging, Restorative, and Functional Medicine and the American Board of Family Medicine, I offer a holistic approach to my patients by focusing on optimization of each organ system. I specialize in treating female and male hormone imbalances, thyroid disorders, adrenal dysfunction, fatigue and pain syndromes, autoimmunity, and weight loss. I believe we can prevent and reverse many of the leading causes of chronic disease if we treat patients as one integrated system with scientifically-proven dietary changes, natural supplementation, and restoration of healthy hormone balance. Functional medicine is individualized health care. If our goal is wellness, the one size fits all paradigm simply does not work. Patients deserve customization of their heath care. This is my focus and my passion.

Anxiety, stress, mood changes, difficulty concentrating and feeling emotionally drained don't happen in a separate compartment from the rest of the body.

Sleep matters. Hormones matter. Nutrition matters. Blood sugar matters. Relationships and life experiences matter too.

That’s why mental and emotional health deserve a seat at the table when we’re looking at the whole person.

Sometimes that means asking different questions. Sometimes it means working alongside a mental health professional. Often, it means recognizing that caring for the mind and caring for the body were never two separate conversations to begin with.

Whole-person care has to include the person between the ears, too.

She Was 15. He Was 27. And He Was Supposed to Protect Her.

Sandra Birchmore was just 12 years old when she joined a police Explorer program. She admired the officers. She trusted them. She wanted to become one of them.

By age 15, prosecutors allege she was being sexually abused by a 27-year-old officer she'd met through that program.

Years later, Sandra was found dead at 23. Pregnant. Her death was ruled a su***de.

Now that former officer is on trial for her murder. He has pled not guilty.

But here's what I cannot wrap my head around…

**THREE officers** were implicated in inappropriate relationships with Sandra.

And not ONE faced Massachusetts criminal charges for sexually abusing her.

How the hell did THAT happen?!

We're digging into Sandra Birchmore's story this Thursday on The Medical Mystery Files.

Pumpkin spice latte. Pumpkin bread. Pumpkin muffins. Pumpkin cookies.

At some point, fall decided pumpkin needed to be in EVERYTHING. And honestly, we’re not here to ruin it.

Supporting your metabolic health doesn’t mean giving up the foods that make the season fun. It means remembering that your body still cares about the bigger picture.

Pairing those fall favorites with protein and fiber, building balanced meals, moving your body and getting good sleep can all help support steadier blood sugar.

So enjoy the pumpkin treat.

Healthy habits and pumpkin spice can, in fact, coexist.

SHE DIDN'T DIE?! 💉 The Death Penalty Has a Medical Problem

What happens when the government attempts to execute someone with a massive dose of medication… and the person SURVIVES?!

As a physician, I have some QUESTIONS.

Starting with: WHERE THE HELL DID THE DRUG GO?!

The reported failed ex*****on of Christa Pike sent me down one of the strangest medical rabbit holes of my career.

IVs that don't work. Drugs that don't reach the bloodstream. Pharmaceutical companies refusing to supply ex*****on medications.

And then I discovered something I absolutely did NOT expect.

Historically, lethal injection has had a higher documented botched-ex*****on rate than the FIRING SQUAD.

Yes. You read that correctly.

So how did the method designed to make ex*****ons look more humane become the one with the highest recorded failure rate?

And here's the bigger question: Are we trying to make ex*****ons less painful—or just less uncomfortable for the rest of us to watch?

In Episode 80 of The Dysfunction Files: Medical Mystery Files, we're talking medicine, murder, lethal injection, firing squads, and the heartbreaking story of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer.

I went into this episode thinking I knew where I stood on the death penalty.

I came out questioning a whole lot more than I expected.

🎬 Watch the full episode and tell me: Does a more peaceful-looking ex*****on necessarily mean a more humane one?

We tend to notice metabolism when the scale changes or our jeans fit differently.

Meanwhile, it’s involved in how your body produces energy, manages blood sugar, responds to hormones and fuels everything you do throughout the day.

And it doesn’t operate alone.

Sleep, stress, insulin, thyroid function, muscle mass, hormones and nutrition can all influence how efficiently that system works.

So metabolic health isn’t just a conversation about weight.

It’s a conversation about how well your body is managing energy.

And that’s a much bigger story than the number on the scale.

They Tried to Execute Christa Pike—And She Woke Up

Tennessee attempted to execute Christa Pike with pentobarbital.

She became critically ill.

And then—
she woke up.

As a physician, my first question was:
WHERE THE HELL DID THE DRUG GO?

Because if an IV infiltrates, medication can end up in the surrounding tissue instead of the bloodstream—and that could change everything.

But here's where this story gets even crazier:

Christa Pike wasn't Tennessee's first ex*****on problem this year.
And what I found while digging into the OTHER attempt?

Holy sh*t.

This week's Medical Mystery Files goes down one very strange rabbit hole:
THE DEATH PENALTY HAS A MEDICAL PROBLEM.

Testosterone tends to get top billing in men’s health, but it’s only one player in a much bigger production.

Sleep, stress, insulin, thyroid function, cardiovascular health, body composition and other hormones can all influence energy, strength, mood, libido and performance.

So when the conversation starts and ends with one testosterone number, we may be skipping a few chapters.

The number matters. The context around it does too.

Men’s health is bigger than a T level.
