I’ll be approaching 60 in a short couple of years, and we all know we’re not getting any younger.
But that doesn’t mean we have to settle for feeling like crap or accept that “this is just what happens as we get older.”
One thing I’ve been honoring in my own life is changing that narrative. I’m choosing to look at this season as another chapter in my book and asking myself:
What do I want the second half of my life to look and feel like?
For me, that has meant giving myself permission to put myself first, unapologetically. Deciding
what I want to upgrade in my life and making those things a priority. A non-negotiable.
I often tell my clients: you can’t continue to do the same things and expect different results.
Sometimes things have to change: Our habits.
Our situations. Our thought patterns. Our beliefs.
And sometimes, the stories we’ve been telling ourselves for years.
And yes, even the excuses.
Because excuses may feel justified in the moment, but they can also be the very thing keeping you stuck.
I don’t want to look back on this chapter and wish I had done things differently.
And now, I have an even bigger why.
We’re expecting our first grand-baby in just a couple of months, and she has given me even a deeper reason to think about how I want to show up.
I want to be a gramma who can run around, jump, play, get down on the floor and easily get back up.
No excuses that I’m “too old” or that’s this is just what happens when we age.
I want her to remember her gramma as someone who prioritized her health and well-being so she could fully live her life.
Because life isn’t meant to revolve around a bunch of checkboxes, rules, or perfectly structured routines.
Because that’s really what this is about for me,
To have the energy, strength, and health to say yes to moments that matter.
And to stop letting our excuses decide what we’re capable of.
So instead of looking at midlife as something I need to fight against, I’m choosing to respect it for what it is: An opportunity to decide what stays, what goes, and what deserves more of me.
That’s my midlife upgrade. 🤍
