Vampires come out looking for blood this time of year. At GVH, our blood bank team makes sure the right blood is right where it needs to be. 🩸

Behind the scenes of our Level IV Trauma Center is a carefully managed blood bank, staffed around the clock, 7 days a week. The blood bank maintains a ready inventory of blood products that can mean the difference between life and death for critically injured patients. And here's something remarkable: GVH became the first ground EMS agency in Colorado authorized to carry and administer blood products in the field.

That means life-saving transfusion therapy can begin before a patient even reaches our doors. 🚑🏔️

As previously reported, Gunnison Valley Health (GVH) has been awarded a five-year annual $4.5 million grant through Colorado’s Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) to create six new healthcare functions in Gunnison County.

We wanted to take a moment to shout out Brenda Drahnak and Nicole Flory on our Rehabilitation team.

They both recently earned their Certificate to become Certified Stroke Rehabilitation Specialist (CSRS). As CSRS-credentialed therapists, they are trained and equipped with the necessary knowledge to work with and help stroke survivors regain their daily living skills, enhance their cognitive recovery, and so much more.

Thank you Brenda and Nicole for growing GVH's exceptional care and helping patients through all stages of life.

Like vampires, our hematology team works with blood every single day… but with a microscope instead of fangs.

Hematology is the study of blood and the cells that make up our blood. Our laboratory team uses hematology testing to provide physicians with valuable information about a patient’s overall health and help identify conditions that may require further investigation or treatment.

The The Colorado Health Foundation presented the 2026 Dr. Virgilio Licona Community Health Leadership Award to Cinthia Saenz on Friday.

Cinthia was nominated for her work as GVH's first Bilingual Patient Navigator as well as her work with Juntos Gunnison, an organization bringing people together with respect for the language and culture of immigrants, newcomers, the established immigrant community, and the receiving community in Gunnison.

Cinthia’s leadership within our immigrant community and commitment to care is unparalleled. GVH is extremely fortunate to have her on our team!

An annual flu vaccine is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your family this influenza season. Our Family Medicine Clinics are administering vaccines for patients of all ages.

Patients can call to get scheduled on our nurse schedule or ask for a vaccine at their already scheduled appointment.
