Big news! 🎉

Green Light DOT Exam has been selected as a finalist in this year's Spark! Tank Pitch Competition, hosted by Fletcher Incubator + Labs at Hagerstown Community College.

When I started Green Light, the goal was simple: make DOT physicals easier for drivers and the businesses that depend on them. Instead of losing half a day in a waiting room, drivers get their exam where they already are, whether that's the fleet yard, the job site, or wherever works best.

Had a great time at the Washington County Chamber of Commerce B.A.S.H. last Wednesday, hosted by The Arc of Washington County, Inc..

It was eye-opening to learn more about the work The Arc does supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families here in our community. Events like this are a good reminder of how many organizations are quietly doing important work right in our backyard.

A big shout-out to Slide Hustle for catering the event. It's always good to see a fellow Fletcher Incubator + Labs at Hagerstown Community College member doing so well. There wasn't an empty belly in sight, and everyone went home well fed.

Last Friday we set up on-site with the team at SERVPRO of Frederick County to knock out their drivers' DOT medical exams.

Stopped in at Test of Time Bakery while I was in the area for a business circle meeting at the Fletcher Incubator + Labs at Hagerstown Community College, and I'm glad I did. Talked with the owner's husband for a while and got the full picture of what they're doing here, and it's genuinely impressive.

Everything is baked on-site. That sounds like a small detail until you realize how many "bakeries" are actually just reselling stuff that got trucked in frozen. Not this place — what you're buying was made in the building you're standing in. On top of that, everything is non-GMO and organic, with no preservatives or additives. In an industry where "fresh" gets stretched to mean whatever, this is the real thing.

It's easy to see why needs more businesses like this. If you're in the area, especially if you're checking out other local small businesses the way I was, put this one on your list.

Good morning yesterday at the Washington County Chamber of Commerce event, your next customer. Rod Bourn touched on a lot, but the line that stuck with me was: Never leave any stones unturned, because you never know what's under them.

That's basically the whole philosophy behind how I run Green Light DOT Exam. A DOT physical done fast and loose can miss something that matters — and for a driver, "something that matters" can mean a safety issue that shows up on the road instead of in the exam room. I don't rush these. Every driver gets the same thorough exam whether it's one guy or a full fleet.

Good to spend time with other local business owners this morning too. Always worth showing up.
