Worried that sports will wreck your knees? According to Dr. Kelechi Okoroha, chief of sports medicine at UT Southwestern, playing sports usually doesn’t raise your arthritis risk. Specific injuries do, especially ACL tears, meniscus tears, cartilage damage, and fractures into the joint. The good news is that you can protect your knees. Strengthen your core, glutes, quads, and hamstrings. Practice good landing and balance mechanics. Mix up your sports instead of playing one year-round. And don’t ignore a knee that locks, catches, or gives way, because early treatment after an injury is one of the best ways to keep arthritis from setting in. 🦵💪

Have you ever felt physically exhausted but unable to quiet your mind? Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata), also known as maypop, has been used traditionally to promote relaxation and restful sleep. Research suggests that compounds in passionflower may influence GABA, a neurotransmitter that helps calm activity in the nervous system. Small clinical studies have explored its potential benefits for anxiety, sleep disturbances, and menopausal symptoms, although larger studies are needed to confirm these effects.
Natural doesn't always mean risk-free. Passionflower may cause drowsiness, interact with sedative medications, and should be avoided during pregnancy. Always discuss herbal supplements with your healthcare provider, especially before surgery. 🌿

Sometimes supporting better sleep begins with finding ways to quiet the mind.

Foot reflexology is a gentle therapy that uses pressure and massage on different areas of the feet. Many people use reflexology to help them relax, lower stress, ease tension, and feel a greater sense of well-being. Some people also report better sleep and less discomfort after a session. Reflexology should be viewed as a complementary wellness practice, not a treatment or cure for disease. While research suggests possible benefits for relaxation, anxiety, and some types of pain, more high-quality studies are needed to understand its full health effects.

Molecular hydrogen keeps popping up in wellness conversations, so I dug into the research on it. Turns out this tiny molecule, literally the smallest one there is, may help calm inflammation, ease oxidative stress, and support things like exercise recovery, brain health, and healthy aging. It comes in a few forms: hydrogen-rich water, inhaled H2, even baths. The catch? This is still emerging science, promising, but early days, and it's not a treatment for any specific condition. I love following research like this because it reminds me how much we still have to learn about supporting our cells.

Foot reflexology uses gentle pressure on certain areas of the feet. It may help you relax, lower stress, and feel less tense. Some people also report less pain and better sleep after a session. Reflexology can support comfort and well-being, and effects the entire body from the foot reflexes that connect to all the systems in the body. 🦶🦶

Herbal medicine can support health and well-being, but natural doesn’t always mean safe. Herbs may interact with medications, affect surgery, or pose risks during pregnancy and with liver or kidney disease. Before starting an herbal product, check the evidence, choose a quality-tested brand, and discuss it with your healthcare professional or pharmacist. 🌿

Medical hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that uses guided relaxation, focused attention, and carefully chosen suggestions to help a person change how they experience certain symptoms, thoughts, or behaviors. During hypnosis, a person remains conscious and generally aware of what is happening—they are not asleep or under someone else’s control. Clinical research suggests that hypnotherapy can be a useful complement to conventional medical care for certain conditions, particularly chronic and procedural pain, anxiety and stress, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and symptoms associated with medical or dental procedures. It may also be used to promote relaxation, improve coping, address some sleep difficulties, and help people modify habits or responses that contribute to distress. One of its most established applications is gut-directed hypnotherapy for IBS, where hypnosis is specifically designed to influence the brain-gut connection and reduce gastrointestinal symptoms. Hypnosis has also been studied as an adjunct during surgery and other procedures to help reduce anxiety, pain, and sometimes the need for medication. Results vary considerably from person to person, and hypnotherapy should not replace appropriate medical or psychological treatment. When used for a health condition, it is best provided by a licensed healthcare professional with specific training in clinical hypnosis.
