🌿 Overnight herbal infusions- easy kitchen magic and potent medicines.
Sometimes the simplest ways of working with plants are the most nourishing!
Overnight infusions are a wonderful way to enjoy mineral-rich herbs, herbs high in soothing mucilage, and those with delicate aromatic compounds.
Simply use room-temperature water and let the herbs slowly infuse overnight on the counter and pop them in the fridge the next morning. You don't even need to heat the water! This gentle preparation helps preserve heat-sensitive plant compounds, including some antioxidants and chlorophyll, while still extracting beneficial constituents, mucilages and minerals from the herbs.
Some of our favorite herbs for overnight infusions include nettles, lemon balm, peppermint, rose, hibiscus, and marshmallow root. 🌺
Mineral-rich herbs like nettles are especially wonderful to incorporate into your daily routine, offering an easy way to enjoy vitamins, minerals, and other nourishing compounds found in plants.
🫙 Here's how to make your own:
Add ½–1 cup of dried herbs to a quart-sized jar, fill with room-temperature water, cover, and let infuse overnight in the refrigerator. Strain in the morning using a fine-mesh strainer or sprouting lid, right into your cup and enjoy! Keep whats left in the fridge letting the herbs still still in there and slowly extract to sip on for the next few days. It will get funky, start fermenting or risk contamination if you leave it for too long (like anything) but odds are, once you start, you'll crave its herbal goodness and finish it within a day or two. Stronger blends will carry more medicine, but you have to want to drink it too. Nettles and hibiscus are delicious though, so do not be shy to make those teas potent.
It's a beautiful way to incorporate more plant medicine into your daily routine, especially when you want something refreshing, hydrating, and nourishing.
