Amenity Direct Care At Amenity our mission is to simplify Your healthcare. Say goodbye to long wait times, rushed visi

Menchaca Family Clinic aims to serve the Harlingen and surrounding communities with quality care, convenience, and value. I, Michael Menchaca, am a board certified nurse practitioner with extensive education from one of the country's most prestigious schools, Georgetown University. I want to use my education in medicine and nursing studies to give back to the community by changing the way people think about going in for a check up. I don't think its something that you should have to "hate" doing. I'll be attempting to change this by always keeping patients first and providing a friendly, caring atmosphere in my clinic. None of the information on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any specific disease. As always, if you have an immediate concern it is best to see your primary care clinician as soon as possible.

A $2 Procedure

We recently had a patient come in for trigger point injections to help relieve some persistent muscle pain.
The following day, he reported complete relief.
But here's the part I want to share.

Our total supply cost for the injections was $2 (And I'm being generous).

And because he's a member of our practice, we didn't charge him anything extra.
No office visit fee. No procedure fee. No surprise bill weeks later.

Just a patient who needed help and a medical team that was able to provide it.

In traditional healthcare, a procedure like this may involve separate charges for consultations, referrals, the injection itself, and sometimes even facility fees. The injection self...it can be $250-500

And it makes me wonder...
When did we make something so simple so complicated?

Of course, there's more to providing medical care than the cost of supplies. Our training, time, and expertise all matter.

But patients shouldn't have to worry about what their bill might look like every time they need help.

That's why we built Amenity differently.

Sometimes that means managing complex medical conditions.
Other times, it means a $2 procedure that helps someone get back to living without pain.

Both matter. And both deserve good care.

Just because your knee hurts doesn't mean your knee is the problem.

We recently had a gentleman come into our practice complaining of knee pain. After a thorough evaluation, we discovered that the problem wasn't actually starting in his knee. He was dealing with Achilles tendinitis.

You might wonder what your Achilles tendon has to do with your knee. Well, quite a bit!

Our bodies work as a connected system. When something isn't functioning properly, other parts of the body often compensate. In this case, the Achilles problem was contributing to changes in how he moved, which affected his knee.

But here's what I love about the way we practice medicine at Amenity.
We have the time to look beyond the symptoms.

We're not rushing through appointments trying to see as many patients as possible. We get to listen, ask questions, examine, and really think through what's happening. And as a Nurse Practitioner, that's something I value.

Because sometimes the difference between treating someone's pain and finding out what's actually causing it is simply taking a little more time.

That's the kind of healthcare I believe in, and I'm grateful to be part of a practice that allows us to provide it.

You Shouldn't Have to Be Your Own Medical Expert

I recently ran into one of our patients at a local coffee shop. We sat and talked for about 20–30 minutes, and naturally, the conversation turned to hormones.

She mentioned something that really stuck with me.

Before becoming our patient, she spent countless hours researching hormones on her own. Reading articles, listening to podcasts, watching videos, and trying to figure out what information she could actually trust.

If you've ever researched hormones, you know how confusing it can get. One person tells you they're dangerous, another says everyone needs them, and suddenly you're left wondering who to believe.

She told me how much of a relief it was to finally have someone she trusted to help sort through all that information.

And it reminded me of something.

You shouldn't have to become an expert in medicine just to get good medical care.
That's our job.

Our patients have families to raise, careers to manage, and lives to enjoy.

They shouldn't have to spend their evenings trying to figure out whether the latest medical advice online is legitimate. Sometimes the greatest value we provide isn't a prescription, procedure, or lab test. It's simply being someone our patients can trust.

And that's something I never want us to lose at Amenity.

Member: Can you refer me to a psychiatrist to help with my anxiety

Mrs. M: Calls member, discusses their anxiety, past treatments, responses to treatment, healthcare goals

Mrs. M: proceeds to initiate the treatment plan to help with individuals anxiety

Member: Happy, pleased, and on their way to feeling better w/o the headache of a specialist or the bill!

This individual brought in a beautiful bouquet to show their gratitude.

This is what healthcare looks like when your clinician actually has time for you.

Midway through my career, I started noticing something..

Different patients. Different ages. Different stories.

But so many of them were struggling with the same things.

Weight gain they couldn’t explain.
Anxiety and depression.
Poor sleep.
Chronic pain and inflammation.
Brain fog and fatigue.
Insulin resistance and other metabolic problems.

Early in my career, I saw these as separate problems.

Depression was depression. Insomnia was insomnia. Weight gain was weight gain. Pain was pain.

So we treated them that way.

But after seeing the same cluster of symptoms over and over again, I started asking a different question:

**What if these aren’t always separate problems? What if there’s something connecting them? Why are there so many people with the same problems?**

Those questions changed the way I practice.

I started digging deeper into the relationship between thyroid function, insulin, cortisol, testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, sleep, metabolism, and the nervous system.

And I began to understand just how connected these systems really are.

That eventually led me into hormone replacement therapy.

Not because hormones are the answer to every problem. They aren’t.

But because for the right patient, addressing an underlying hormonal or metabolic dysfunction can improve far more than a number on a lab report.

I’ve watched patients sleep better. Lose weight. Think more clearly. Feel less anxious. Regain energy. Improve their metabolic health. And, maybe most importantly, start feeling like themselves again.

It changed my thinking from:

**“What medication treats this symptom?”**

to:

**“Why are all of these symptoms happening in the first place?”**

I still believe there is a time and place to treat symptoms. But I’ve learned that when several seemingly unrelated problems keep showing up together, it’s worth asking whether they might share the same root.

Sometimes the biggest breakthrough in medicine comes when we stop looking at each problem by itself and start looking at the person as a whole.

Despite what I learned in school, I’m just absolutely flabbergasted at how much better our patients do on desiccated thyroid products compared to levothyroxine and synthroid.

If you had told me a decade ago that this is what my relationship with patients would look like, I’m not sure I would’ve believed you.

There’s so much I appreciate about this exchange with one of our 70-year-old members.

The humor.
The ownership of their health.
The willingness to use new tools like AI to learn.
And most of all, the trust they have in us to help them make sense of it all.

This is what healthcare can look like when you have the time to actually know your patients—and they know you.

I don’t take that privilege lightly.

All glory to God.

One of our members called us after waking up unable to fully extend his knee. It had swollen significantly overnight and the pain was intense.

We got him in that same day.

Take a look at the first photo. There was so much swelling that you can barely see the normal definition of his quad above the knee.

Mrs. M evaluated him and aspirated nearly 60 mL of fluid from the joint.

The difference was immediate.

The swelling came down. His quad definition returned. He could extend his knee again.

And he walked out pain free.

In conventional healthcare, something like this could mean an urgent care visit, imaging, an orthopedic referral, another appointment, a procedure—and potentially hundreds or even $1,000+ in total costs.

With Amenity Direct Care?

Same-day appointment: Included

Office visit: Included

Knee aspiration: Included

Procedure done during that same visit: Included

Fluid analysis: $60

Facility fee: What facility fee? 😉

His total out-of-pocket cost that day: $60.

This is what direct care looks like.

It isn't just about making healthcare cheaper. It's about removing the unnecessary steps between “I need help” and “I feel better.”
