🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀
At Direct Family Healthcare, we believe awareness is more than wearing pink—it’s about empowering women with education and encouraging them to take an active role in their health.
💕 Know your normal.
Take time to become familiar with how your breasts normally look and feel. You may notice changes while showering, getting dressed, or simply going about your daily routine. If you notice something that is new or unusual for you, don’t ignore it.
Be aware of changes such as:
• A new lump in the breast or underarm
• Thickening or swelling
• Changes in the size or shape of the breast
• Dimpling or irritation of the skin
• Ni**le changes or unexpected discharge
• Persistent pain or other unusual changes
Most breast changes are not cancer—but any new or concerning change deserves a conversation with your healthcare provider.
🎀 And don’t forget your screenings.
Breast self-awareness does not replace recommended mammograms. Mammograms can detect breast cancer before it is large enough to feel or cause symptoms, making screening an important part of early detection. For women at average risk, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends a mammogram every 2 years from ages 40–74. Your individual screening plan may be different depending on your personal and family history.
Early detection matters. When breast cancer is found at a localized stage, more than 99% of women are alive five years after diagnosis.
This October, don’t just wear the ribbon. Know your body. Know your risk. Keep up with your screenings. And speak up when something changes. 💗
At Direct Family Healthcare, we’re here to empower women through education, prevention, and personalized care.
Your health is worth paying attention to. 💕
