Something to consider. (I don’t think “medicine has dismissed…,” I do think the body is very complex).

American microbiologists identified a gut bacteria strain that eliminates chronic fatigue syndrome symptoms.

Millions of people spend years being told their exhaustion is psychological. A Columbia University team compared gut microbiomes of patients with post exertional malaise and healthy controls and found consistent depletion of specific bacterial species, plus a measurable shift in bile acid metabolism, which points at a real biological mechanism.

The finding matters because it explains the symptom pattern. These bacteria help regulate bile acids, which affect energy metabolism and immune signalling. When the species vanish, the signals shift and the body behaves as if it is under sustained strain, so ordinary activity triggers a crash that can last days. This is not laziness, and it is not deconditioning. It is chemistry.

Clinically, the next step is faecal transplant trials and defined probiotics rather than guesswork capsules on a shelf. If a depleted strain is restored in the right conditions, some patients may see meaningful symptom relief. More importantly, a biomarker gives researchers a target, which is exactly what this field has lacked for forty years.

If the exhaustion of millions turns out to live in the gut, what else has medicine dismissed as imagination? 🔬

Your sign to go for a walk today ⬆️🚶🏽‍♀️

Movement is a direct stimulus for your mitochondria (the energy factories inside your cells) that power everything from mood to metabolism.

Walking increases PGC-1α, a master regulator of mitochondrial biogenesis. That means more, healthier mitochondria to fuel your brain and buffer stress. It also elevates serotonin, norepinephrine, and BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor), all of which support neuroplasticity, resilience, and emotional regulation.

At the same time, movement decreases cortisol, the body’s main stress hormone, by modulating the HPA (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal) axis.

Your brain evolved for movement.
It solves problems best not in stillness, but in motion.

Start walking. It’s one of the most powerful forms of medicine we have.

One of my favorite rules for travel, and life, is what I call the Rule of 12.

When Tana and I travel, we expect things to go wrong, whether that’s a delayed flight, a reservation mix-up, or plans changing along the way.

Instead of letting the first inconvenience hijack our mood, we don’t allow ourselves to get upset until 12 things have gone wrong.

Why? Because your brain is always looking for what’s wrong. If you let one frustrating moment take over, it can quickly become the story of your entire day.

The Rule of 12 helps us stay flexible, laugh more, and keep our attention on what’s actually going right.

As we head home from a wonderful time in Jackson Hole, that’s the reminder I’m taking with me: protect your brain, protect your peace, and don’t let small things steal big memories. ❤️
