Located at Market Street Creatives 100 Lawton St Torrington CT BOOTH B1 I spent the next six months researching first foods and as they were incorporated into his diet, our whole family benefited. Over the years of small changes our overall big picture changed quite a bit! In our society healthy is expensive, so since paying $4 a day for kombucha wasn’t doable (especially when the kids wanted it too!) I started making my own and realized that if I could stay home in the kitchen making healthy things all day I would . Then it clicked that if I made big batches and sold the extra, ours would be free. Everything is priced with that in mind, I’m covering what we use, not looking to get rich. I have opened wholesale accounts with various vendors for some of my favorite products that we use but I’m not able to make (yet!) like CBD, tart cherry juice, bug spray, Dr Bronners soap... I sell these well below retail, again, basically just to cover the cost of ours. I took a year long course in The Art and Science of Herbalism through Twin Star Herbal School and Rosemary Gladstar. My husband has been tending bees and inoculating mushrooms, the kids are getting bigger and leaving me with more time to focus on the “business” side of things, so I hope to be better at letting everyone know what I have available. I love teaching classes and helping people find this passion in themselves too

Six small choices, most of them free and most of them just leaving things alone, turn a yard into the place wildlife gets through winter.

Six ways to build a winter refuge:

- Leave the leaves — that layer is where butterflies, fireflies, and bumblebee queens ride out the cold. Bagged, they go with it
- Leave the stems and seed heads standing — seeds feed finches and juncos; hollow stems shelter native bees. Cut in spring, not now
- Build a brush pile — a loose heap of branches in a back corner is a five-star hotel for birds, rabbits, and chipmunks escaping the wind and the hawk
- Keep water open — once everything freezes, open water is harder to find than food. A heated dish, or a dark stone in a shallow bath to catch the sun
- Leave a dead limb or snag, where it's safe — standing dead wood is a cavity bedroom for woodpeckers, owls, and squirrels
- Skip the fall pesticides — the top inches of soil are packed with sleeping insects and queens; a grub treatment soaks the lot

🐾 What that adds up to isn't a neglected yard. It's one of the few open shelters on the block — the warm, messy, alive corner the neighborhood's wildlife funnels into when the cold arrives.

Do less, leave more, and the yard becomes the one that gets them through. 🍂
