Welcome back to Medication Minute with Prime Hormone Health!
Today, we’re talking about tadalafil, better known by the brand name Cialis. If you think this medication is only for erectile dysfunction, you might be surprised by what else it does.
Tadalafil works by relaxing certain blood vessels and improving blood flow.
It’s commonly prescribed for erectile dysfunction, but it can also help men who struggle with urinary symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate, including frequent urination, urgency, and a weak urine stream.
It’s also used to treat a condition called pulmonary arterial hypertension, where pressure in the blood vessels of the lungs is too high.
Some observational studies have found that men taking these medications have lower rates of cardiovascular events and lower overall mortality. Other research has explored possible connections with brain health, including dementia risk.
Now, tadalafil isn’t right for everyone. It must never be taken with nitrate medications, such as nitroglycerin, because the combination can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure.
As with any medication, your medical history, other prescriptions, and individual risk factors matter.
At Prime Hormone Health, we believe understanding your treatment is an important part of taking care of your health.
If you have questions about tadalafil or whether it may be appropriate for you, please give us a call.
