I read this quote in a devotional this week and it hit me hard, so I wrote it in my journal. For the past 30 minutes I have been reading it on repeat. Initially I thought of lies other people have mentioned to me. Ones that plagued them or that were intrusive. Then my focus turned to myself. Which lies have I listened to? Which lies have I told myself? I am truly the only one who can replace MY lies with the truth. With the help of God, of course.
*”I’ll do that tomorrow.” Tomorrow came and I didn’t do THAT. I chose to replace the procrastination with assigning a time to do it later. Then I did it. Sometimes the timing isn’t right. For me, a definite time and place ensures that I have a better chance of completing the task.
*”I’m not THAT out of shape!” This one I have told myself for…..well, a long time. Now I take walks like my life depends on it because it does! I’m facing the fact that I am quickly approaching the end of my sixth decade. I will be 60 in a year and a half. I want to be able to play and do things with my grandchildren and my grown children. I want to be able to go on my trips and adventures with Kevin. I want to be able to do routine activities of daily living for several more decades. I won’t get there by accident. I MUST BE INTENTIONAL! Besides, I want to beat my own time in a 5K in the spring. And I need to be able to hike Grand Canyon in a year and a half.
*”Who do I think I am attempting something like that?” I have thought and believed this lie the most. When I set a goal for myself, whether personal, professional, familial, etc. I believe I can do it in that moment. For a while I believe it. And then I stop working toward it, which eventually leads to disbelief that I can achieve it. Whatever happened to, “Shoot for the moon and if you miss, you’ll still land among the stars?” CONSISTENCY YIELDS MORE INTEGRITY WHEN IMPLEMENTED. CONSISTENT INTEGRITY YIELDS MORE BELIEF. THUS BEGINS A NEW AND BEAUTIFUL CYCLE.
These are but a few of the lies I have believed. What lies have you believed in your mind and what truth will you replace them with?
