What is animation deformity, and why does implant placement matter?

One of the potential drawbacks of traditional under-the-muscle breast augmentation is animation deformity, where the implants visibly shift or distort when the chest muscles contract.

Can Preservé® be combined with a mastopexy (breast lift)?

Absolutely! For women experiencing breast sagging who also want to restore or enhance volume, combining Preservé® breast augmentation with a mastopexy may be an excellent option.

A mastopexy addresses excess skin and repositions the breast tissue and ni**le, while Preservé® allows us to add volume using a tissue-preserving approach without cutting the pectoralis muscle.

Together, these procedures can help create a lifted, fuller, and more youthful breast appearance while maintaining natural proportions.

Of course, not every patient is a candidate. The degree of sagging, breast tissue quality, and individual anatomy all play an important role in determining the best surgical approach.

Sometimes, less really is more.

For this patient, the goal was a subtle, proportional enhancement that complemented her natural anatomy.

Dr. Epstein selected 205cc medium-profile Motiva® implants, placed using the Preservé® breast tissue preservation technique.

Rather than focusing on dramatic changes in size, this approach emphasizes thoughtful implant selection, careful surgical planning, and preservation of the breast’s existing structures.

An interesting aspect of this procedure? The patient underwent surgery with local anesthesia and a small amount of sedation to help ease her nerves, without the need for general anesthesia.

From the initial surgical markings to the immediate postoperative result, this case demonstrates how even a relatively modest implant can create a beautiful, noticeable enhancement.

Breast augmentation isn’t about choosing the biggest implant. It’s about choosing the right implant for your anatomy and goals.
