I grew up seeing photos of my mama and grandma holding me over newspaper to p**p as a newborn. So when I had my own baby, doing elimination communication (EC) didnāt feel weird or extreme to me at all. It just felt like something mamas have always done, and in lots of places around the world, they still do.
EC is basically learning your babyās cues and giving them a place to go. By 5 months, my daughter was signaling to me when she needed to go!!
So when it came time for daytime potty training, it only took two days. On day two she held it for a whole two hour play date at an indoor playground, even with drinking water a couple of times.
EC doesnāt have to be all or nothing. We had her in cloth diapers the whole time as backup, and I just caught what I could. Part-time EC still counts!
Misses arenāt failures. Every miss teaches you a little more about your babyās timing and signals.
You donāt need to start at birth. You can start EC at any point in the first year or so, and even if you donāt, you can still build on the same idea when you potty train.
Itās so much more about connection than it is about the potty. Youāre learning to read your baby, and theyāre learning that youāre listening.
And Iām definitely not an EC or potty training expert! Iāve only done this with one little one, so this is just what worked for us. Go Diaper Free taught me so much of what I know, so if you wanna go deeper, Iād highly recommend following her.
Inside my membership I share the full story, the research on babies + bladder control, the cues to watch for, my exact two-day process and everything we used along the way. Comment JOIN and Iāll send you the link. š¤
Send this to a mama whoās expecting or starting to think about potty training! Your babyās already talking to you, and I canāt wait to hear what they tell you once you start listening!!
