🤝 The Power of Collaboration

It takes a community to support our youth.

We’re proud to see this story highlighting what can happen when people and organizations come together with a shared commitment to the well-being of young people.

The Idaho Youth Well-Being Survey creates an opportunity to hear directly from students about the issues affecting their lives, and, just as importantly, brings together the people who are willing to listen, learn, and take action.

We’re especially proud of Polly Grasham, Panhandle Health District’s Substance Use Disorder Prevention Educator, for helping bring this coalition together and create space for that collaboration.

There is something powerful about the many people who are willing to show up for youth, schools, public health, community organizations, youth-serving professionals, and individuals who believe our kids deserve a community that is paying attention.

No single organization can do it alone. But together, we can listen to our youth, understand what they need, and work toward meaningful change.

Thank you to everyone who is showing up, collaborating, and making space for the voices of our young people. This is the power of community. 💙

Throughout October and November, all students in grades 6-12 in the Coeur d'Alene School District will receive an anonymous survey designed to identify the biggest issues affecting youth well-being in the district.

🎀 POWER FOR EVERY MAMA 🎀
This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re celebrating the powerful benefits of breastfeeding that offer Power for Every Mama.
Breastfeeding may help lower Mama’s risk of:
🛡️ breast, ovarian, and endometrial cancers
🛡️ postpartum depression due to increased oxytocin released during breastfeeding
🛡️ chronic diseases later in life including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure
🛡️ osteoporosis
While breastfeeding is natural, it doesn’t always come naturally. We're here to help!
Our International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) can support you with:
🩷 Latch & feeding concerns
🩷 Milk supply
🩷 Pumping & fl**ge sizing
🩷 Returning to work
…and more!
Through breastfeeding, supporting baby can mean supporting Mama, too.

Last night, Panhandle Health District Interim Director Dr. Thomas Fletcher and Heritage Health CEO Mike Baker joined Kootenai County Commissioner Bruce Mattare for a Town Hall Discussion on Modern Medical Progress and the Challenges Facing Healthcare in the 21st Century.

The conversation was informational and, as you would expect in a community discussion about healthcare, included a range of perspectives. Community members shared views that aligned with the speakers, while others strongly disagreed on some of the topics discussed.

That’s an important part of having these conversations. Not everyone has to agree for a discussion to be valuable. What matters is that community members have an opportunity to ask questions, voice concerns, hear different perspectives, and engage directly with local healthcare and public health leaders.

Thank you to everyone who attended, asked questions, and engaged. Panhandle Health District appreciates the opportunity to continue listening to the residents we serve and having open, respectful conversations about the health of Kootenai County and the greater North Idaho communities.
