This weekend is level 2 of Celtic Tree Medicine. What a gift to share this sacred practice with such wonderful humans! The level two trees are all about self-discovery and the who-am-I quest with some of the most potent trees such as Hawthorn, Blackthorn, and Holly. It is sure to be a weekend of deep work, discovery, and healing. If the sacred trees are calling you, reach out to secure your spot for the next practitioner program! This in-person program based in Hebron, CT runs once per year. 2027 dates coming soon!

The Maiden, Mother, Crone construct is one that frequents client sessions as we face challenges that come with womanhood through all stages of life. The overarching message is always rooted in the knowledge that in truth, we are always all three and we can access the gifts of each throughout our lives. There is a wise woman in every teenage girl just as there is a radiant maiden within every old woman.

The Maiden asks, “Who might I become?”

The Mother asks, “What will I create?”

The Crone asks, “What do I know now that I have survived becoming?”

Maiden, Mother, and Crone are often presented as three neat stages of a woman’s life, yet archetypes rarely behave so neatly.

The Maiden is the part of you standing at the beginning. She is curiosity, desire, freedom, risk and the willingness to walk through a door without knowing what waits beyond it.

The Mother is the creator. Not only of children, and motherhood is never a requirement of this archetype. She is the part that nurtures an idea until it becomes real, protects what matters, tends the fire and understands that creation requires both devotion and boundaries.

Then comes the Crone.

Perhaps the most misunderstood of the three.

She is not a woman fading from relevance. She is the woman who has lived long enough to recognise patterns. She knows which battles deserve her energy. She knows when something is finished. She knows that an ending does not always need rescuing and these three do not wait politely for their turn.

You can meet the Maiden at sixty when you begin again.

You can embody the Mother while building a life, a business, a garden, a community or a dream.

You can hear the Crone at twenty-five when experience teaches you something you will never unknow.

Maiden. Mother. Crone.

Not a countdown through womanhood.

Three faces of becoming, creating and knowing.

Sometimes the most powerful moment arrives when the Crone looks back at the Maiden and finally understands everything she once had to learn.

River here! Hello, my friends! Sometimes it's easy to get too in our heads and focus on the what-ifs. It sure is easy to believe worst case scenarios when we are in a place of worry. For a baby cob like me, perceived fear feels very scary! I was having trouble getting used to the new wash stall... who knows what could be lurking in the trees behind me! Then, my person let me stand backwards so I could see the trees. I was starting to worry about the rustling leaves when I noticed all of the feed buckets drying on the rack next to me. I touched one with my nose and it fell down, so I did it to the next one and the next one until they all fell. Before I knew it, I was having so much fun! Now I can go in and face the right way and I am not afraid anymore. It turns out, the wash stall is not a bad place to be! Maybe the next time you find yourself in your head and focusing on all of the possible scary outcomes, you could try seeing the situation from a different view and change the story to something that makes you smile. Chances are, nothing was ever lurking in the first place, and you may have to see it from a different perspective to find the good in a situation. Remember, you get to write your own story! I hope this helps! Love, River the Irish Cob
